Freshman Dem [Rep. Maxwell Frost, D-Fla] proposes bill to remove Statue of Liberty in protest of GOP's 'bigoted' immigration law

A House Oversight and Accountability Committee hearing on immigration discussed H.R.2, the House GOP’s Secure the Border Act, the comprehensive border security and immigration bill passed back in May. The bill would restrict the asylum process for people crossing the border and require resumed construction on the border wall.

The freshman congressman was one of many Democrats who attacked the bill, though he also produced a mock bill to remove the Statue of Liberty for Republicans to also pass.

"My colleagues from the other side of the aisle, let’s be honest with immigrants who deserve better than what you’re offering them. Don’t welcome immigrants if you plan to reject them. If you keep pushing your bigoted H.R. 2 bill, then also pass this bill. I’ve taken the liberty of drafting it for you," Frost said, holding up the draft. "It removes the Statue of Liberty, our largest symbol that tells people to come here."

Now I understand the need for a Junior Democrat Representative from Florida to pull stunts in order to be seen as relivent. Being provocative is one way to get your name in the papers.

But it's a little cringey to see a member of a party famous for removing historical statues to now be calling for the removal of the Statue Of Liberty; even if he says he is doing so as a form of protest. It's an odd way to protest.

It's also disingenuous to make the argument that the Statue Of Liberty is a symbol that represents the need for the US to possess a perpetually dysfunctional imagination system. Just because the Statue Of Liberty does symbols imagination to this country as a means to expand one's personal freedoms; the symbolism does not preclude orderly imagination polices.

Well, he's a democrat so that pretty much covers your point.

It is cheaper and safer, to legally migrate to America.

There is a YUGE difference between LEGAL IMMIGRATION & ILLEGAL ALIENS. First one is coming to America, through the process established when the Statue of Liberty was new.

The other, spits in the face of all the immigrants in line already, waiting for their turn, because cutting and sneaking evidently is not hurting anyone. Until it does...

It's that simple.

It really is.

When my grandparents came here, they had to do it legally, they along with the vast majority of immigrants had to do it legally. Without properly doing it, they could not have worked anywhere. That same policy is still going on in almost all nations of the world. If everyone could just come here, why would they have needed the statue of Liberty? All of the cons and crooks that had to leave their own countries would be running the place. The only rights we would have would be those they thought we were allowed to have.

Immigration laws are about keeping the bad people out.

This is just one more example proving my point I posted in a previous thread just this morning.

People keep screaming democracy, democracy, democracy when it's obvious at this point, that democracy doesn't provide the best governance. The electors, people that vote, in general, as a whole, are just too stupid to elect competent, honest representation.

We would be better off using a fricking lottery to select our representatives.
