Now I see: Translator -again- changes "I" and "humans in general" with "you".

I do now type without I do not trust the translator. Not did say you are easy influenced by signs. I was reflecting about me. I can a bit english but not many. I do not knowing when is okay to direct translate. When not.

I was translating a Russian document mentioning a lake the other day.

Bing Translator inserted "Baikal" after "Lake", even though Baikal wasn't mentioned at all, and rather distant from the lake mentioned. Merkwürdig

I always use Google translator. I don't need a translator to read, unless I stumble across words I don't know, but they're easy to google with a right click. That's why I can read the text again from the translator beforehand. I then notice major errors. What I find very strange is when my sentences are completely turned around. Sometimes 2 sentences are combined into one and half the information is then missing.

My last major post is a prime example. When I read through it and try to understand it myself, I notice a lot of things. Sometimes it's enough to make me grit my teeth because it can be misunderstood. See the first sentence... I'm currently torn about how I can do better. Because it really annoys me and gnaws at my ego a bit to have to rely on the translator every time it has to be readable and I still have to check that too.

I'm too confused about the tenses and the grammar. I know you can often - but not always - translate directly. What would be better, to start with translating everything 1:1 until it runs smoothly or to start from the beginning and learn everything fresh? Ich versuch mal eine Mischung aus 1:1 und wenn es sich falsch anhört dann drehe ich worte so wie ich es von euch schon gesehen habe.

I find the fish rightful funny, it is one fresh concept. Out of this like I how the speaker at the end then the unprecison upclears.

the verb at the very end has to go somewhere else and therefore I have to write it differently, but where and how? Of course I can test it here in the translator, but I still don't know why.

Now try I fix the order of the words so sentence sound similar to when I read here or hear. Then modify I the time tense. It is past? And it all ready done. Is then simple past? The table on language website say:
- was when single
- where when plural
- have = had

Those are three exceptionally profound and beautiful quotes, Naftalin... thank you for sharing! Tess was a truly profound soul.

By the way, I understand perfectly what you post; try not to worry so much about the translations. Just the fact that you can read in English and occasionally use a dictionary, puts you at an advanced level... the fluency in writing will surely improve over time, especially with zosimov's guidance, who I wish I had had as a teacher when I was a youngster... I may have actually learned something.

I'm about to leave, hence the translator. Well, that thing helps me the most, for starters. I can compare right and left. And since the sections between . and , often mean the same thing, I just remember half the sentence. I've already used this shortcut a few times. It works quite well for short sentences! Not the ones the translator spits out now. Because when I use it, I write directly in German.

And then I have much more sophisticated sentences and the translator then somehow knocks them together . To learn or try something out, or if I really don't understand something at all, I still always need the translator. I do understand English words that I come across in everyday life. Words like "life work balance". Or "world of wonder". It looks very similar in German and I also come across technical English words in my hobby.

Writing yourself is much more difficult. Writing something. First formulate the sentence in my language, in your head. Then translating every word and then trying to change the grammar is quite an adventure. And I'm not on the computer that often, although I've been more regularly recently.

I'm sorry to have missed you when your brain was all abuzz with learning.
You are on the right track there with the tenses. Let's start with the simple tenses and we can learn some of the others later.

Simple present tense denotes day-to-day actions, facts, routines;
I eat, Naftalin eats
I am, he is, we are
The sun rises and sets
We like pizza
I play baseball, Naftalin drives speedy cars

Simple past for actions that are finished.
Regular verbs take the "ed" ending
walk = walked
talk = talked
We walked up the hill. She talked to him for hours.
Irregular verbs must be learned individually/memorized
eat = ate
think = thought
teach = taught
I ate breakfast at midnight. (that is for tdda's little one) Naftalin thought that was funny.
The boys played a great game.
It was funny. They were funny.

Future, like you wrote, uses "will"

Zosimov will write, Naftalin will cook, The neighborhood cats will prowl

You have the mandated and not allowed actions right; must is another word for mandates or rules though too.
You must fill out the forms completely.
Allowed action might be can
You can swim here. You can drive my car if you want.

Maybe more possible. I did not understand first: In multiple choice, the sentence formulated like question is not correct. In German translate 1:1 it is valid rhetorical question. In English it is wrong nosense.
