When I was little we were so poor we couldn't always afford food, so Mom would sit us all down at the kitchen table and read us the recipes. I had a younger brother who was hard of hearing and he almost starved to death.

We were so poor we couldn't afford a dog, so if someone pulled up to the house we took turns running out and barking.

We were so poor Mom would take us to KFC so we could lick other people's fingers.

Go away "digger".

As poor as an Ute.

Germans, once they were so poor, they sold them as indentured labor.

We were so poor we would wear our socks upside down so we wouldn't get holes in the heels.

Barefoot - made you some moccasins.

Take it back, we don't accept charity from Indians.

Well screw you, I do.

We were so poor

that we

had to recycle

words

But seriously
We were so poor that I was born in someone else's house.

I was working my way through private school
until I was expelled for a job related incident
at 14.

They were adult socks; everything was bought several sizes larger so we could 'grow into them'. I was only three.....

It wasn't as bad as the shoes I also got that same year; I didn't grow into them until I was 17.

We were so poor we decorated the citchen broom with dust bunnies for our Christmas tree.

We may have been dirt poor, but we at least had cement floors! No roof, though; that cost extra.
