White Flight of another kind

I watched something this morning that had me cracking up.

Since I was a little girl we heard this term “White Flight”
What it meant to me was when black folks started moving in white neighborhoods and they didn’t like it so they would start moving en mass, ie “white flight”. Lots of articles, news stories, and research was done on this.

There was always, always a spin, that the black folks were bringing something negative, something unsavory and that the whites were escaping. (I’m not saying I believe this, but this is how it was portrayed)
Then for the longest time, we didn’t hear much, until now.

White flight of a different kind. Asians are the fastest growing minority in the US.
Here

Data from the 2020 U.S. Census Bureau show that there are approximately 20.7 million Asian and Pacific Islanders in the United States—comprising 6.2 % of the U.S. population—that make up the fastest growing minority group in the United States.

So what is happening is that Asians are moving into areas and they are raising the bar very high, in schools and certain people don’t like that very much. So what are they doing. They are moving to less competitive areas. 😱

Here

Fear of Competition? Research Shows That When Asian Students Move In, White Families Move Out In wealthy, educated communities, evidence emerges of a new form of “white flight.”

cities like Cupertino) where white families disenrolled from local schools following an influx of Asian children, with some parents openly complaining of increased academic competition from the new arrivals.

Let me tell you, as an Asian American person, and former student this is one of the most interesting topics to me.
Some would say YES, raise the bar, everyone should emulate the Asians and their studious behaviors and the parents that “support” them.

The Whitey, white, part of me would say, child abuse, lack of childhood, lack of any other life other than study study study isn’t life. When some American families get an exchange student from Korea they are shocked at how little the student does themselves. Their parents, grandparents and family revolve their life around the student studying. What is often not talked about is the extreme mental, emotional and even physical abuse that takes place if students don’t achieve perfection in grades. This means no A-, no A’s Only A + or any other extra credit.

Anything other than perfection isn’t accepted or celebrated. I’ll never forget when I did a sport, I beat all my classmates, I EVEN beat boys in my grade, yet I didn’t beat the girl that was a grade older and my mom scolded me why.

The Asian side of me think a good dose of discipline, values, and bettering ourselves is sorely needed in some of these schools. Some of these parents are doing their children a disservice by removing them from the reality of their future. I also wonder where are they moving and how that changes the dynamic of those places.

I think we will see a lot more of this in the coming years.

If I had my preference now, being as old as I am with too many material entanglements keeping me here, I would take flight to Argentina.

Good beef and wine, but won’t escape Asians as there is an influx there too

my memory of this is that the media and the Democrats were crying foul and accusing those relocators of racism.
I think a lot of cities saw this as loss of tax revenue and pushed to absorb the suburbs.

the mostly-white suburbs compared local schools and resisted.

the USA can only benefit from an Asian influx. (I'm talking civilized Tiger-Mom Asians, not Triad/CCP thug Asians.)

Tsk Tsk Tsk, you are separating Asians by light skin, dark skin aren’t you?

WELL if you are, don’t worry about it because COLLEGES do it too. How do I know? When my daughter went there was a scholarship opportunity but it excluded Japan, Korea… She applied anyway and because her school had very little Asians in general she got it.

PS. There is a place for Thug Asians, or as my lovely brother would say, I know people that know people. It always cracks me up when he says that. We just call them our form of policing.

not to profile but in certain circles it's said the Asian neighborhoods police themselves.
apologies if this is a racist/stereotyping statement...

100000% accurate and I actually think there are both positives and negatives to it.
A lot of Asians see each other as family. This isn’t something that is talked about much especially in a multicultural society.
So you would rather take care of issues within the “family” rather than get law enforcement involved. Of course there are some abuses that take place with that power.

I dont know about asians really, none i have seen in my neighborhood. But the black family right next door to me are better neighbors than the white family in the house on the other side of me. I'm white btw.

Skin color really doesn’t have anything to do with it.
I’ve seen super trash Asians, Hispanics, Whites, and Black folks.
I’ve seen the reverse too, and I’ve lived a lot of places.

I think it has a lot more to do with socio economics than anything else. Don’t know about the school in the article, but my guess is there are other races in the school and if a large population of Asians are moving in, they are pushing all other students down by a rung. The only reason whites are possibly moving is because of the economic power to do so.
If we looked at this same happening in a regular suburban neighborhood, my guess is there is no white flight.

My take on this also extends into religion. So, if they wean all off in the belief in God and motal sin as such you will go to hell.

So what if they take that away from all thise "meek" indivuals.

Will that group band together as some peoples continue to have a moral compass. Will they strike at the evil ones and basically take them out and as such; "the meek shall inherit the earth".

The Sermon on the Mount it's not only one of the most famous sections in Holy Scripture, but it's also one of the most transformative teachings in the history of the world (its rival teachings being Jesus’ other discourses). However, we must recognize that divine instruction cuts against the grain of human thinking. The Sermon on the Mount in Chapter 5 of Matthew’s Gospel begins with a series of proclamations that must have been disturbing if not perplexing to those who heard it. In verses 2-11, the so-called “Beatitudes,” our Lord, seated, with the crowds before Him, proclaimed,

"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.

We have a winner !!

They don't give a damn about your child's education, they see parents as a 24/7 ATM. I couldn't tell you how much we spent on football, dance and gymnastics, but I'd guess around 10k over 6 years. There's 2 years difference in my kids so just when one graduated, the other was still in there. After they had both graduated, the school STILL kept hitting us up for donations.

Why are your posts so contradictory? You posted not that long ago complaining about black nutcrackers taking over your Target store in the middle of the "white" midwestern community. But now commending white flight because it's smart Asians, and coming across like oh that's not a big deal (also because you know Asian American amirght?) Then you kind of always make a back peddling comment like "But I'm NOT racist guys!! Promise! I'm just making observations!" Please. I don't know how anyone on this forum can take you seriously. Also nice job on always bringing your humble bragging into your posts yet again. Of course you beat all your classmates including the boys!! I've never eyerolled so hard in my life. I still can't figure out if you are trolling ATS most of the time with your threads or if you really just a bored housewife with nothing better to do than take your complaints and observations to a conspiracy site and be like "OHMYGERD you guys won't believe this!" Do you really believe or are outraged by half the crap you post, inquiring minds would like to know!

At one time I had 3 kids in three different schools (elem/middle/high) can you even imagine?
They all did activities, and now imagine this, one time with all the fund raisers and sports teams, and extracurriculars we
Had 19 FUNDRAISERS! It was insane. I told the school it was just too much. There is only so much you can sell to friends/family neighbors and work no longer allows these types of things. It was too much.
I did volunteer quite a bit.

I had a very mixed class when I was in school 45 + years ago which was unusal for the time , and the Asian brother and sister that were in my year were extremely driven to succeed and super bright .

There father had a very prestigious job in government somewhere and he only came to my dump of a school because we churned out sword fencing champions year after year , the only other thing that that place excelled at was churning out nut jobs for the special forces of the military .

But those Asian kids were really smart and I have no doubt that kids did well in life , they were getting chauffeur driven to and from school , god knows what they thought about us country bumpkins

There is nothing contradictory about my post, but perhaps you have reading comprehension issues.
I’ll help you in easy to understand language because it appears you didn’t have an Asian parent push you.

Black Christmas decor shows that traditional feelings on Christmas are changing. This is neutral, yet people can have their own opinions on this.

Do you understand what a humble brag is? It’s something good. My example was the opposite, no matter what level I achieved it wasn’t enough for my parent, which ties into the meat of the OP and article. If you would read a little more you would also see where I shared my opinion on why this isn’t a good thing. Again, is a humblebrag about things that aren’t good? You may read but you don’t comprehend. Humble brag is something you are proud of but then self depreciation of it. I am not proud of the outcome, it was traumatic.

I’ve said it before, there are tons of people on ATS that enjoy my posts and the conversations that follow. If you don’t keep a’ scrolling. I know you do, that’s why you always comment, so who my dear is the bored one 🤭

I experienced white flight as a kid.

I was living in an all-white Christian neighborhood -- Los Angeles suburb. Most activity happened after the Fair Housing Act. (we stayed put).

Then busing to integrate the schools.

Prior to this -- whites lived with whites, blacks lived with blacks, Asians lived with Asians, Mexicans lived with Mexicans, Samoans lived with Samoans, etc.

After a few years -- things settled down -- and for the most part neighbors became neighbors.

The biggest issue in high school was the white girls dating the black male athletes. Did not go over well with the black girls.

Currently, I know some Filipino/Samoans. They are creating their own neighborhood. When a house goes up for sale, they make sure one of their own buys it.

As far as the industrious Asians taking over -- reminds me of Capitalism. May the "better man" prosper.

What year was that in Los Angeles? I remember visiting in the mid 80’s and I thought it was the scariest place I had ever been! All Asian neighborhood. I remember bars on all the store windows and things like that.

Can you please answer my question, do you really believe your loads or horsecrap or not? Funny how you bring back words I used made in previous comments to you on other threads (yes I saw what you did there) but you are not addressing my questions. My reading comprehension is actually just fine thanks. You're just trying to cherry-pick to try and make your point. I meant about your postings as a whole being contradictory but you know that. Otherwise, you wouldn't have thrown the backhanded reading comprehension comment in. Why is it when someone challenges you you dance around it and only address things that you think paint you in a good light? How about putting that tough skin you supposedly have to good use
by answering the real questions, or does it bring too many flashbacks of your tough Asian upbringing of being over-criticized?

I was asked was I lost lol .

I have the care factor of zero where I head and I am to stupid to notice half the time that I am entering a area that most would avoid

Well, I'm 77.

Yes, bars on windows in bad neighborhoods to protect them from their own. Whites didn't go there.

Asians were more accepted into white neighborhoods because they were seen as self-disciplined.

I support that culture is DNA inherited. Why should any other culture have to fit into "white puritan Christian"? Damn, they're boring.

I don't mean to make this sound like it's about race.

There were laws and social restrictions preventing socio/economic cultural groups from intermingling.
