I can see a lot of people are upset that these court cases may get resolution sooner rather than later. But it's a good thing to figure things out quickly, rather than slowly. Especially where there is justice.

Jack Smith brought up in his filing that Ford pardoned Nixon. Why did he do this? What can we deduce from this?

Ford knew that Nixon committed crimes, and because he knew former presidents had no immunity, he anticipated the forthcoming charges, and preemptively pardoned him.

The act of pardon for Nixon itself means former presidents do not enjoy any legal immunity.

Yes, but he complicated it, nobody else did. He didn't have to file for candidacy after he was indicted. He didn't even file his paperwork until after his indictments. And even if he filed earlier, before them, it wouldn't shield him anyway. No law does.

Becoming a political candidate does not create any immunity. Otherwise, every criminal would run for office as soon as they committed a crime. It would immediately shield them.

That's not how it works.

He had every option to stay out and focus on his trials. He did this instead because he wants to use it as a legal strategy.

And now smarter legal minds are seeing through it, and skipping over it.
