May be wrong but haven't they done the same prominent public backing of the Republican candidate for decades?

I have a vague memory of George W. Bush being called the chosen one and most of his domestic policies being based on their beliefs. I think his dad recieved the same treatment/backing but can't say for certainty.

There's a great rabbit hole about the Doomsday Cult in the US who campaign/lobby for policies intended to cause the rapture. They're also highly active in most African countries and the Middle East
