2023 has been pretty good.
Health wise, I have never been better. And it seems to be a trend that is continuing to improve. I am actually on course to achieve a goal I once
thought all but impossible: lose almost 100 lbs and get back to the weight I was when I graduated high school by the time my 50th class reunion rolls
around. I have three years to lose the last 15 lbs!
Financially, life is comfortable, if not lavish. My bills are paid. There is food in the pantry and the freezer. I have used my free time in
retirement to develop my cooking skills (almost got "crackless" cheesecake down!). I have a lifetime pension (State civil service) with medical,
dental, and vision coverage to augment my Medicare; and Social Security, which will almost double my monthly income, kicks in less than a year from
now. I own my home, so no rent worries, and my credit card and car are both paid in full.
Family is all healthy and well. Although one sibling is going through a divorce....that will make her a multi-millionaire when all is said and
done.
I do have an adult niece who refused to be vaccinated for COVID, came down with the virus (per positive test results) earlier this year, and is now,
slowly, recovering from "long COVID" symptoms which forced to quit her job. But, she moved back in with her parents, and, as I said, is recovering.
I really think 2020, and the upheaval that was the pandemic, served as a sort of "winnowing"; separating those who could muster the will and ability
to adapt to massive life changes, from those who could not.
The ramifications, going forward, will likely prove to be even more significant, and crucial, than most people realize....or want to think
about.
