We have a few more weeks left of 2023.

How has it been for you? Let’s hear it.

For me it’s been one huge mixed bag, the highest of highs and lowest of lows. Every single month has been a jumble of I can’t believe this is happening to me, in a good and bad way. Oddly, this seems to be the case with almost everyone I know.

One thing I’ve really seen this year is that every, and I mean every single young adult 20+ person I know has had mental health issues.
I don’t know if it is from Covid, the vaccine, the whiplash from lockdown, the economy, the job market or all it. Would love to hear from others if this
Is isolated to my area or if this is more widespread. If “children” are our future and this is their state of mind, we are all screwed!

I think we can all anticipate that 2024 will make 2023 seem like Nirvana…
What will we have? A US Presidential election, Paris Olympics, a total solar eclipse… and a lot more.

Even good ol’ ATS has had its ups and down this year.🤣

Yeah well a generation of after me the flood maybe wasn't the best of approach.

Once you're out of the market there is a long way to death, so we get to watch that flood with all its beauty mow down everything we worked for and leaving a baren field for the next generation to mud trough...

This is only surprising to those ignorant to what psychological and sociological impact an economy has on the individual.
We didn't really thought it trough did we...

Fun times ahead

2023 has been pretty good.

Health wise, I have never been better. And it seems to be a trend that is continuing to improve. I am actually on course to achieve a goal I once thought all but impossible: lose almost 100 lbs and get back to the weight I was when I graduated high school by the time my 50th class reunion rolls around. I have three years to lose the last 15 lbs!

Financially, life is comfortable, if not lavish. My bills are paid. There is food in the pantry and the freezer. I have used my free time in retirement to develop my cooking skills (almost got "crackless" cheesecake down!). I have a lifetime pension (State civil service) with medical, dental, and vision coverage to augment my Medicare; and Social Security, which will almost double my monthly income, kicks in less than a year from now. I own my home, so no rent worries, and my credit card and car are both paid in full.

Family is all healthy and well. Although one sibling is going through a divorce....that will make her a multi-millionaire when all is said and done.

I do have an adult niece who refused to be vaccinated for COVID, came down with the virus (per positive test results) earlier this year, and is now, slowly, recovering from "long COVID" symptoms which forced to quit her job. But, she moved back in with her parents, and, as I said, is recovering.

I really think 2020, and the upheaval that was the pandemic, served as a sort of "winnowing"; separating those who could muster the will and ability to adapt to massive life changes, from those who could not.

The ramifications, going forward, will likely prove to be even more significant, and crucial, than most people realize....or want to think about.

Love the positivity of your post!

I’m a military brat, and for those that know, we faced massive upheaval constantly while growing up. That has made us somewhat immune to drastic life changes. I actually loved the lock downs, (not the government mandate part) but the part of spending so much time with family. We had a blast. We cooked, played games, binged watched, did crafts. To be fair I don’t have young kids so I think that made a massive difference too. I know a lot of parents went nuts. We weren’t without tragedy during that time as several relatives died, but somehow we made it through.

For your niece I recently read that hyperbolic oxygen is showing unbelievable positive results for those with long covid. If she hasn’t tried it maybe something to look into. fasting works wonders too.

I survived. Lots of anxiety because of the news, events, etc. But I survived and developed tougher skin.

This pretty much sums it up....

If it wasn't for the trashed economy I'd be sitting pretty; now I worry about the financial future. It costs $11,400 more to provide the necessities than it did two years ago.

The cost of eggs put me in financial ruin. Thanks 2023.

This year sucks. I will be glad when twenty three is over. I sure hope twenty four is better than this year.

You're right Jagstorm, so many people we know are having issues with their mental health these days. Society is getting so complicated it is stressing out the people or making them depressed. Too much change in society too fast, and the changes are making people confused about what they should say which is tearing society apart.

Our whole country seems to be going nuts, people are being told they have to choose a side. We do not have to choose a side if both sides are crazy. It is driving people nuts.

You are right I’m not picking a side!

I still have a roof over my head. I still have food in the kitchen. I still have my husband and he still has his job. I'm doing okay medically and so is my husband and so is the dog. So that's all good. Worried about the future though.
