I was kind of young in the sixties, but still went to the local dances with my sister. In the seventies, it was great, when I turned eighteen in seventy three, the drinking age went down from twenty one to eighteen here in Michigan. Bars were packed, outdoor parties every weekend, Frisbee tournaments and lots of bands in the bars. It was so fun....I pity the young these days, they can't comprehend what they are missing.
When the cops stopped by an outdoor party full of underage kids, the kids would run into the woods. My cousin and I would go to the cop car and talk to them. We were seventeen, but knew all the cops because his fathers brother was the sheriff. The cops told us to tell the kids not to run into the woods, they would rather have them partying out there than getting in trouble in town. But if someone ran into the woods and poked an eye out, it would make a lot of paperwork for them so they wanted them to know they were not going to bother them and if they were looking for someone they would not bother anyone else.
The fire department burned down the tent of a gay guy who was trying to get young boys drunk to take advantage of them one day, the cops were there to watch the firemen doing their firefighting exercise. That was the seventies. The cops were not against people who were gay, but when they were hustling kids they wanted them out of their town.
