Mr Biden, 80, formally announced his 2024 re-election bid in April, telling voters the country is in a pivotal moment and he needs more time to "finish this job".
The Democratic Party faithful, including elected leaders and top donors, are backing him up - but many voters still need convincing he is the best candidate the party has.
Significant numbers of Democrats have called for other options, expressing concern over Mr Biden's age, mental acuity and a series of challenges ahead, both domestic and global.
The president's approval ratings have also declined to the lowest of his tenure, in overall terms and among Democrats.
But with the party unlikely to schedule any debates ahead of the primary election, he is not expected to face a serious contest.
So who is challenging Mr Biden?

WASHINGTON — Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., inched closer Wednesday to confirming that he could run for president.
"I will do anything I can to help my country, and you're saying, 'Does that mean you would consider it?' Absolutely," Manchin said in an interview with NBC's "Meet the Press" moderator Kristen Welker.
"Every American should consider it if they're in a position to help save the country," he added.
Manchin said he first has to explore whether there's an appetite among voters for a moderate candidate like him.

Biden is the incumbent. When was the last time an incumbent president debated a same party challenger?
Trump, when he was the incumbent, in 2020, didn't debate any challengers either. Neither did Obama, or Bush, or Clinton, or Bush, or Carter, or Reagan.

Just like last election! Gotta hide Joe from the public or he will do what he does best, screw it up. It would be great to see him fumble on stage for the hundredth time! How many people would have still voted for him if they got to see him bumbling in 2020 debates?

The most recent Dem primary polls have Biden polling over 70%. The most recent GOP polls has Trump polling around 50%.
Last time I checked 70% is greater than 50% but for some reason the narrative is that Biden is polling terribly in his primary while Trump has a commanding lead in his primary.
