You said they could make us immortal and curb over-population, well, I think it'd make more sense to simply make a lot of us sterile, and make themselves immortal. Would it not?
Shorter life-cycle means the person has a shorter period of time to "get wise", and thus is easier to manipulate, while they, and only they, could grow vastly more knowledgeable through their time.

It's just gonna create further economic stratification.
The useful gene edits will be prohibitively expensive, and will stay that way.
Multimillionaires will buy them and live forever ageless with no disease,
while Johnny at the window factory has testicular cancer and dies at 45
still on the clock because he couldn't get PTO for cancer, and he was trying to get all the hours
he could to save up for a gene edit to cure him.
It sounds like really great technology, but it's not gonna be implemented the way you think it will.
A fair point I've heard many times before and for the most part I agree.
Save one big point.
If we as a human species are ever going to Colonize other planets and Conduct interstellar Travel then we have to figure out a way to Edit the human Genome to extend life and make Humans more resilient and adaptable to space travel .
CRISPR Tech is that answer.
if we stay on earth then it will be used in another way . The Earth will be depopulated and the Powerful will create a working class with the remaining people and this working class will have extended life times so they can labor longer essentially accomplishing the labor of multiple humans over multiple life times.

“It’s a tremendous scientific milestone because it’s the first time that they’ve been able to show that a single base pair of DNA editing, using CRISPR technology in humans, has had a clinical effect,” says Ritu Thamman, a cardiologist at the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania. “From the clinical point of view, it has the potential to open a new way of treating coronary artery disease” that could involve people receiving a ‘one and done’ treatment rather than taking daily pills.
But the findings have also drawn criticism. Two serious adverse events in the trial, including a death, have raised safety concerns, and Verve’s share price plummeted by nearly 40% following the results’ release despite their promise.

i know people have been messing with CRISPR for a while now but this i really like... and it brings us one step closer to real world gene editing on demand, something i am totally in favor of
just thought this was a nice story to see as we baby step our way into this brave new world.

Not "the lot of us".
"A lot" of us.
Big difference.

Not only that, statins that are capable of crossing the blood-brain barrier like Lipitor (not all can) actually cause Alzheimers, almost like flipping a switch. It takes about 6 weeks to cause it once started on the drug, and 6 weeks to recover fully after you stop taking it.
Statins should be outlawed.

I have high LDL cholesterol.
My doctor just doubled the dose of my atorvastatin.
I've tried about everything to get that number down, and nothing seems to be working.

Honestly cholesterol is not bad, brains need it like others have mentioned. Biggest issue is inflammation and things that cause it like processed sugars and bad fats, which causes scarring and then the cholesterol builds up and causes issues. The body still needs that cholesterol or else it wouldn't make it.
Western Medicine seems focused on a repeat customer with symptoms treated with $$$ pharmaceuticals
I tend to look for a cause, and things that can be fixed by simple diet changes or added vitamin/supplement
