Welcome to the mysterious world of the Nation of Islam (NOI), where unconventional beliefs, intriguing narratives, and historical debates come to
life. Today, we're diving into the enigmatic "Yakub story" and the concept of "Tricknology."
Introduction: The Yakub Enigma
In the annals of the Nation of Islam (NOI), the name Yakub (also spelled Yacub or Yaqub) is one that stands out, steeped in historical significance
and provocation. According to NOI beliefs, Yakub was a brilliant scientist and leader who lived 6,600 years ago and is credited with initiating the
creation of the white race. He purportedly accomplished this through a unique form of selective breeding known as "grafting" during his residence on
the island of Patmos. Furthermore, NOI mythology suggests that Yakub is none other than the biblical Jacob.
Controversy and Resurgence
The story of Yakub has been a point of contention within the NOI throughout its history. Under the leadership of Louis Farrakhan, the NOI continues to
assert the truth of the Yakub story, maintaining that it aligns with modern scientific understanding.
The Story Unveiled
The story of Yakub finds its origins in the writings of Wallace Fard Muhammad, the founder of the NOI, notably in his doctrinal Q&A pamphlet, Lost
Found Moslem Lesson No. 2. The narrative was further developed by Elijah Muhammad, Fard's successor, with its most comprehensive rendition in the
chapter "The Making of Devil" in Muhammad's book, Message to the Blackman in America.
Yakub, according to NOI doctrine, was born in Mecca during a time when 30% of the original black population was "dissatisfied." He hailed from the
Meccan branch of the Tribe of Shabazz. Notably, Yakub earned the nickname "big head" due to his unusually large head and his arrogance. His journey
into creating a new race began at the tender age of six when he discovered the law of attraction and repulsion while playing with steel magnets.
This newfound insight sparked his plan to craft a new people, "made to attract others" and capable of ruling the original black populace through
knowledge of deceit and manipulation. By the age of 18, Yakub had exhausted all knowledge available in the universities of Mecca and realized that the
original black man contained both a "black germ" and a "brown germ."
With 59,999 followers, Yakub set out to an isle in the Aegean Sea, identified as Patmos, establishing a despotic regime and embarking on a mission to
breed out black traits. His method was ruthless, involving the elimination of darker babies and the creation of a brown race over 200 years.
Yakub passed away at the age of 150, but his followers diligently carried on his work. After 600 years of this deliberate eugenics, the white race was
born, marked by the brutal conditions of its creation that molded its perceived evil nature.
The White Race Emerges
The newly created white race ventured to Mecca, where their disruptive behavior led to their exile to West Asia (Europe). Stripped of everything but
language, they were kept away from paradise by patrols armed with swords.
The Role of "Tricknology"
In NOI doctrine, "Tricknology" plays a significant role. It encompasses the notion that the white race used deception, manipulation, and a lack of
empathy to usurp power and enslave the black population. According to The Autobiography of Malcolm X, all races other than the black race were
considered by-products of Yakub's work, with the "red, yellow, and brown" races emerging during the "bleaching" process.
Yakub's Progeny's Destiny
NOI doctrine holds that Yakub's progeny were destined to rule for 6,000 years, after which the original black peoples of the world would regain
dominance, a process initiated in 1914.
Yakub and Jacob
The name Ya`qub (Yakub) has linguistic parallels to the Biblical Patriarch known as Jacob in English language versions of the Bible. This connection
is not coincidental, and it adds an intriguing layer to the narrative, drawing comparisons between Yakub and Jacob's roles as progenitors of distinct
tribes.
Legacy and Controversy
The Yakub story and its associated beliefs have left a significant mark on the Nation of Islam, giving rise to internal disagreements and external
criticisms. Malcolm X, for instance, rejected the story in his later statements, emphasizing that anyone who intentionally deprives others of basic
human rights is a "devil."
Now this is an interesting story. Even when we allow for poetic licence over the years.
I am no scholar, but 6,600 ago is before the Prophet and I guess, before the events of Al-jinn.
I wonder if the Jinn are mentioned in the story, and if so, what part they played.
Some at least of the Jinn, both those who surrendered in Al-jinn, and those who did not, are instrumental in making the double.
The process of making the double is not a dark secret, and in some ways is not all that different to the ways of modern science. The making of the
double is also not exclusive to the Muslim, the practice is global.
