Wonder why “nobody wants to work”?
Let’s take fast food out of the equation, because that seems to bring some interesting opinions.

Just hop onto Indeed and pull up any job that you think a normal adult might have.
I just looked at one, it’s for a 911 operator. We can all agree this is an adults job and not for teens. It is not a temp job,
It is a job/career.

The pay is around 23 an hour full time, sounds like a decent pay.
That would give you a take home pay of about 2800 (month)
Average Rent in the US is 1700, that leaves you with 1100.
If you have a very low end car payment, that will be anywhere from 2-300 dollars.
Let’s say 250, that leaves you 850 For the entire month.
That 850 will need to pay for food, gas, electricity, water, garbage, internet, cell phone, clothes, etc.

Can it be done. Yes, but the problem will arise when the car needs a major repair. When sickness arises. You know, normal living stuff.

So those numbers above, are the average. Of course there can be some adjustments. The person could live with their parents (or roommates) if that is available to them. That would save on housing costs. How many adults want to live with their parents though? (Remember this isn’t a starter job)
The numbers could look different if the person has any debt, credit card, student loans etc.
Being married would possible bring in double the income, but if they have a child or children, that might negate any savings.

Either way, it’s a razors edge when you look at it from a financial perspective. The salary isn’t the problem in itself, I would have killed for that salary back in the 90’s. The problem is the cost of living, especially housing costs. Something has to give.

This is what the young people are raging about. The American dream is almost dead. Take those numbers and it makes it almost
Impossible to pay your rent, let alone save for a house.

Just my opinion on the situation.
I think we are going to see a generation of youth living out of their cars, vans, tiny homes.
I think we might see a resurgence of trailer parks.

I’ve also noticed something else, some people are taking matters into their own hands and buying land and creating tiny home villages. The housing bubble has had an unintended consequence. Those with over inflated house prices don’t want smaller homes built near them due to the perceived devaluation of their homes. Some towns now outright ban certain sizes. It’s really crazy when you think about it.

I was recently at an extended stay hotel. The space was expertly designed. It was a little over 600sq feet.
If it had about 200 sq feet I think it would have enough room for the average family of 4 or less. The problem is that they just don’t build stuff like that anymore!

Its getting to the stage where a persons only option is to opt out of society altogether.

Wait until AI replaces a lot of jobs.
911 operators like the one you listed will be on the replacement list.

Women will be hit the hardest when AI gets effective but that's probably not going to happen soon though.

Changes are coming to the economy. The pendulum will be swinging back soon and it will be ugly. Housing will drop substantially and automakers will fall.

Yes, that is coming and it’s going to be a shock.
You are right, AI will replace a lot of things that require a certain set of responses, but just for a moment,
Can you image you are in an emergency

Press 1 for a bullet wound
Press 2 for explosive diarrhea
Press 3 if a burglar is in your home
Press 4 if a burglar is in your home with a weapon
Press 5 if a burglar is in your home without a weapon
Press 6 if a burglar is in your home and you don’t know if they have a weapon, but you also have explosive diarrhea
Press 7 to hear these selections again
Thank you, goodbye

Haha!

Well I don't think it will be quite like that. Let's hope.
We are going to see something close to Siri where it will here key words and act accordingly.
The processing power needed was just a dream a couple years ago but not anymore..

On the flip side, I’ve already heard that AI is diagnosing some diseases people have suffered with for years that doctors couldn’t figure out.

Another problem I see, in regards to housing, are the rental management companies who constantly advertise and encourage people not to sell their houses, but rent them out instead. Add to this the "cash for homes" guys, (who upgrade it to a higher price range or rent it out themselves) and you have an ever shrinking number of affordable homes on the market.

I lived in a trailer park once for a while. It was actually a pleasant stay. The only uncomfortable bit was one night when the wind really picked up.

Cheers

This actually goes back much further than recent years. I recall reading commentary by Louis L'Amour about how, when he was young, there was always (physical) work that men could do, even around small communities. His point was that as our society deployed machines to replace physical laborers, our "leadership" did nothing for those who got squeezed out by mechanical devices.

What we see today is an exponential version of that, but I suspect the crescendo has not yet been reached.

Cheers

It’s very difficult to run a household on one income with today’s inflation.

I so want to buy a cottage on a big lot with a garage. I live in an 1800 sq ft home that is way too big for me to keep up and the yard work.

But there isn't much available that isnt a piece of crap trailer on a piece of dirt.

Nothing newer than 70s?

I hate McMansions.

If you look at Hitler's plan for total domination and then compare America's 'progress'/changes since 1945 it isn't hard to see the exact same plan has/is being carried out at a much slower pace so people won't connect the dots.

I am a boomer and we always had the future to look out for.

Now a days, Social Security is going to run out!!!, Climate change is going to destroy the earth!!!, etc.

Why waste your life working if it's all for naught?

All I can tell my 15-year-old (high functioning Autism) is -- you are your best talent -- you have to sell yourself (not sexually).

He's a tall white good looking male (gotta be real) it helps.

He's very outgoing -- friendly and funny. He's an excellent writer -- but can't do math Dyscalculia.

Sales -- some type of sales. Even acting is a type of sales.

I can't imagine the "influencer online trend" to last forever -- but maybe -- that's sales too.

Use what you got.

I have lived in 38 houses in my life. I have lived in everything from a trailer to an actual castle.
I’ve lived in a ranch, to a four story home, a 600ft modest home to a house with an elevator.

I actually have fond memories of living in a trailer. It was actually military housing. As crazy as it sounds, it was incredibly cozy, well designed and a lot nicer than most people would imagine.

One of my house was 1800 sq foot and it was a lot more roomy than people would think. It is all about the design.
It was 4 bedrooms. It also depends if you have a basement.
To me the land is much more important than the house.

That is very true, and if I may add… That physical labor was very fulfilling to a lot of men.
It also probably kept a lot of young men out of trouble. They worked, came home, ate and went to bed. No time for nonsense, troublemaking and such.

My 1800 sq ft house way to BIG for one person. It's a silly waste of space.

I want to find something much smaller, and cant. That isn't a condo, or in a trailer park.

Laws need to become more realistic.

I'm on 5 acres of desert. Not even allowed to put one trailer on the property.

Can't get a permit to turn the garage into a second home.

With so many homeless people (losing job, unable to pay rent, etc) -- this is just stupid and unrealistic.

But someone can have an acre of useless grass lawn.
