Ex-North Dakota lawmaker charged with flying to Prague with intent to rape a minor

A former longtime North Dakota lawmaker is charged with traveling to Prague with the intent to rape a minor, according to a federal indictment unsealed Monday.

Ex-Republican state Sen. Ray Holmberg was arrested Monday in Grand Forks, according to an arrest warrant. He is also charged with one count of receiving images depicting child sexual abuse, according to the indictment filed Thursday in federal court in North Dakota.

Never too old for some good old fashioned minor rape... this guy was still in his 70s when he arranged this and made the trips. My first question is -- did he wait until his 70s to start raping minors, or has this perhaps been an earlier obsession? Will this blow up now that he's been arrested and charged?

I'm not from North Dakota, never been there, so I have never heard of this guy before. Anyone more familiar with him?

Any of his friends and fellow legislators know about this? Anyone ever join him on his trips?

It accuses the 79-year-old Holmberg of traveling from his home state to the Czech Republic from about June 2011 to November 2016 with intent to rape a person under the age of 18. The other charge dates from about November 2012 to March 2013.

Holmberg served more than 45 years in the North Dakota Senate until his resignation last year, after local media outlet The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead revealed he exchanged dozens of text messages with a person who was jailed on charges related to child sexual abuse images.

Wow, so disgusting! I hope he does time in prison. Pedos are at the bottom of the food chain in prison. He will find himself in a world of hurt.

A guy like this would off himself before he went in.

And he's 79. The first beating would kill him if he didn't do the job himself first. Unfortunately, he's too old for the many decades of punishment he deserves.

There's been recurring accusations of politicians being heavily involved in pedophilia for decades now, yet only a case or two gets exposed every few years.

Where there's smoke there's fire. How many others are involved and being protected may never be known, even with photo evidence via abandoned laptops.

WTF is wrong with these "people?" It seems like almost every day some perverse scandal is being dropped into the newsphere involving one of these clown public servants. Invest in rope, the dead don't re-offend.

My evil next door neighbor is high up in South Carolina government. He along with at least six other families traffic drugs and IMO children. Even the kids have been groomed since early age. I related same to FBI in October 2021. Hes connected to many Governors but NOT the currect South Carolina Governor. This stuff runs deep as they are also swingers, satanists and love weekend matathons with prostitutes. How do 30 people hole up in a home for several days? Must be excellent drugs
