This was no Hack .

If it were …Things would have been much worse . Hackers love to let you know that YES they cracked your site / code whether it be Overtly or Covertly the Hacker would have left a message . Just like a Serial Killer they love to claim their work it's just too irresistible . Yes there were Trolls running amuck claiming they hacked the Site and of course they were all full of sh*t

Not to mention if someone did crack the door on ATS then why stop at just resetting the passwords ? They would have done much more damage than that .

Of course I could be dead wrong and what we were looking at is a simple Ransom attack , “ Give me X amount of $$ and I'll let the Mods back in to fix the Accounts ” . Because in the end that is what happened …. Somehow the Administrators got back in and started resetting passwords.

That being said I still don’t think this was a hack , I think this was someone messing around in the source code . Question being who has access to the Server and Source code of ATS ? The Owners and Admins …..and Anyone who may live with the Owner or Admins .

This looks like someone was dabbling around in the source code who shouldn't have been and made a Moderately big Boo Boo on the user accounts and it took a few days for the Administrator to realize his Son or Daughter was overwriting the source code for ATS
Wild I know but it seems the most likely thing to me .

It was entertaining though watching ATS for this past week
It was like being at a 'Firing Range' and someone started handing out Beers to everyone Anyways it's nice to be back how ever long it may last , because someone is neglecting ATS If I had the extra cash I would buy ATS but hey I like Boats and Guns to much to have that much extra cash.

Now prior to the access denied thing , I'd had some strange occurrences with my avatar that overnight had vanished and instead got this image of a PlayStation whom I never uploaded?

It’s a catch22 if it’s not a hack.

On the good side, it shows that the owner is having someone maintaining the site.

Bad news is they are hiring idiots that don’t know what they are doing.

More bad news is we’ve learned that we will never get transparency and the owner is never going to communicate with us.

My theory is that someone nuked the email and password database to shield the identity of a poster.

There is definetly a hack involved but it doesn't appear to be the cause for the great reset...

So far the hacker made some little shenanigans in the q forums and let mods know he was there camping out like a ghost in the machine, so far the hacker helped getting people back...
First mod was DTOM that got her account back, then Djarums got the workaround for the compromised login data, and here we are with djarums resetting each and everyone's login data manually one by one...

The hack involved doesn't seem to be the cause for any bad surprise, quite the opposite actually...

Not that I know much about the backend of websites, but the speed at which the troll accounts racked up in the first day, makes me think it was a pre planned attack of some kind by someone.

But the major question , as I see it, is who owns this site. Who is paying the bills. Hell, for all we know, the owners are the psychology department of Harvard University and this whole mess was nothing more than upsetting the mouse cage.

I noticed that as well. It was like an alarm went off in Trolltown with free for all invitation to invade. This almost immediate influx fits very well with my suggestion above, psychological experiment.

You are right, it wasn't a hack. If you go in the discord chat you can find out more about what happened.

Best I understand the passwords were all messed up by a SQL injection (a failed attempt at a hack) or by someone with legit access making a mistake.

There is an old admin that was able to figure it out and figure out how to reset people's passwords, including the admins. That is how it was fixed.

Thanks old admin you are the hero of the story.

That’s because a great majority were the same people. It was like 10 people doing all of it.

It was fake and gay 😂

ATS has a name among the internet sleuths that move between the black and white part of it...
many trolls love that dimly lit place right under the crossing bridge...

Also appears the owner/owners and the 1 admin darko have not been on the site in something like 5 months.

Yes that's true but they are doing a # job of it .

That is the part I don't get , What's with the Cloak and Dagger ??? ATS has potential it always has it is Truly unique . Some people Like to think ATS is a nothing site that no one pays attention to .....

Oh BS , All the madness going on in Israel and around the world and ATS goes down ?? Not a coincidence at all . ATS is a low key spot that many powerful Eyes keep a watch on .

I wondered that myself .

Did someone take it down to conceal an OP ? In come the Trolls to cause enough chaos so everyone looks the other way but thinks to DBCowboy and a few others the trolls were kept in line.

Its not a coincidence. ATS is an information portal and we are deep under in 5thgen warfare. It happened for a reason.

All you really need was a few people telling a few people on other places former or disgruntled ATSers have congregated, and....well, you saw it for yourselves.

I think the OP is correct. Something more to this maybe. Maybe it was just a little accident whilst tiptoeing through a database. I remember accidentally deleting the entire user database of over 2,000 people on an OS 9.0 network once. THAT was a touchy sketchy for a few hours.

Maybe somebody touched on things they shouldn’t have. Maybe information was shared that shouldn’t have been. Maybe some nasty people doing nasty things reacted badly. I doubt we will ever really know the truth.
