In a matter of 24 hours what was a tropical storm off the coast of southern Mexico with strong winds, but nothing to write home about, strengthened and turned into a category 5 hurricane, and then rammed head on into the populous and tourist filled city of Acapulco with 165mph winds night before last, becoming one of the strongest ever hurricanes to make landfall in Mexico. The surprise storm that caught everyone off guard, even the government, leaving the majority of the population unprepared, has left extreme carnage and havoc in its wake. The tourist city of Acapulco being utterly devastated. The people of the city and surrounding areas are in urgent need of food and water as governmental agencies are slow to react to the unfolding chaos left in its wake, There is still no power and running water. 8 in every 10 buildings in the city have been damaged.

Here is a weather forecaster I watch regularly on YouTube and what he had to say about the hurricane as it formed. He was astonished at the vigor with which it turned into the enormous giant of a hurricane in a matter of hours.

Oh wow. how did they not see this coming??

That's like the government's biggest money trap for tourists too.

It was in the forecast to be at max a hurricane cat 1 or 2 when it hit, many didn't even see that happening. Then in a matter of hours, it intensified from a tropical storm to a category 5 hurricane right off the coast and then rammed headlong into the tourist city of Acapulco, it has a population of over a million from what I read. We have friends there and asked how things are doing and not much report yet. Just hearing that it is really bad.

I hope the cartels have lots of $ and resources to offer for recovery, since they run the country now.

I hope we don’t foot the bill while the cartels go full speed ahead delivering their tsunami of fentanyl, illegals, and children/ sex slaves.

Without Acapulco tourism, the country may go bankrupt.

I am praying for the people. And am ramping up to help out the best my family is able to. Many people without homes, without running water, without power that are in urgent need of aid.

Yes, all the storm chasers and meteorologists I follow were also shocked. Some mentioned the extreme 12 hour magnification of the storm. That is unprecedented. There is no way to evacuate anyone in those cases. So scary. Hope they recover soon.

I hope this is not weather warfare. Are there some anti-illegals anti-cartels conservatives still buried in our spook services ?

Anti-cartels conservatives? What exactly does that mean lol? If you are for cartels, you're a liberal? Like, who is for cartels? They're criminals, killers, drug pushers and child smugglers and downright evil people. Why do anti-criminals have to be put in a political box? Can't we simply hate crime and denounce criminals? Or is that only for 'special' people?

For the people of Acapulco suffering with losses, I hope they can get aid, food, water and shelter. That's terrible to be in such a disaster.

People don't usually advance-schedule vacations to the Islands around Puerto Rico during Hurricane season (June thru October), but you rarely hear of Acapulco getting hit this hard.
