Me too, but I wonder when they automated the car industry if the same concerns were said. If people are trying to defend the crappest jobs from becoming automated then good luck, but why bother? The service industry is like the worst pay and really monotonous back-breaking work for pennies.

That was pretty sound advice, but at the pace things are advancing in the technosphere they might be obsolete soon.
if we dont go extinct, humanity is going to have much bigger problems.
once there isn't any need to chase around the demons we so dearly kept, all hell will break loose...

The young are like I need a living wage to cook hamburgers, so along comes 15 to 17 to start in a job that takes you 1 hour to learn. Then the company says we can't afford 20 workers so they fire 15 and pay the other 5 17 per hour and install self-service kiosks as replacements.

Good thing you choose that and not a mobile phone, that's pretty feasible assuming the climate is right to grow the basic ingredients...
but you know, maybe robots will make even better cigars and bourbon.
without us even bothering and we might just get it for free. However chances are, all the free time and free drinking bourbon and smoking cigars will kill us fast, maybe it will be rationed for savety measures, because obviously some have no self control.

I retired as a receptionist. So many places are going with automated phones with menus where you have to repeatedly press different numbers, and if you're lucky, you'll be connected to an AI. If you're really lucky, you will finally be connected to a human being, only they may speak barely any English, and they will turn out to not be able to help you. They will connect you to another phone menu, and on it goes. Or, there is no phone customer service at all. You will have to go online and hope to get ahold of someone who can help you. More than likely though, you will be connected to a chat bot, who will tell you to send an email and you may get a response in 10 business days. And the PTB consider that an improvement over having a good administrative staff. Yeah, very glad I retired.

I'm currently working as a crossing guard. I'd like to see them replace that with a 'bot. That would be a disaster in the making right there.

They will not be making money out of me that is for sure, I like to see my coffee being made fresh and I do not eat fast food of any kind is nothing but garbage.

Also if those machines aren’t maintained it can get gross very quickly.
How will a machine know if there are fruit flies or such?

When it comes to coffee, I just prefer to make my own. You really don't know if the person making your coffee just put their finger in their nose or somewhere else; or maybe took a poo and not wash their hands afterwards. Nasty.

But I think you sound kind of elitist regarding the fast food comment, like you're better than others because you never eat it. I like to eat it once in a while. Does that make me a nasty person? I think not. And my weight is just fine, thank you very much. I do agree that this country does have a problem with obesity. I believe that is more of people sitting around on their asses and not doing any moving whatsoever.
