The Copernican Revolution came about in about 1610. The human population was about 580 Million.
However all Terrestrial life was probably greater then than now, because less human terra forming.
"Lower animals" don't care about Copernicus. They didn't notice the revolution.
I'm guessing that you are probably aware of insects. They have short life spans. But they still are not nihilistic in thought.
When I smoke the sacred tobacco I go out onto the front porch and lean on the railing. Insects used to gather there to watch me. They must have thought that I was immortal, having lived for scores of their lifespans.
Every once in a while, a grasshopper(lifespan 9 months) would linger for two days, seeking something. I would usually pick it up and carry it down stairs to the grass.
Since insect metabolism is faster than human metabolism it isn't healthy for them to hang out with me. So one day when there was a gathering of caterpillars, earwigs, and grasshoppers, I explained to them that I was really not immortal any more than they were, and that I had no way of improving their lives. I told them to live as long as they could manage, just like I do.
They quit hanging out with me then. It seems sad and lonely but I think I can live with it.

Beautifully written with emotional sincerity.
A metaphore for life and possibly ATS.
I am sure ATS can be reincarnated with enough old members holding fort, denying ignorance with civility and sincerity.

Be careful. You really don't want them to get into your house.
