I just received an email from them asking if I want another, as in addition to the bin I already pay for,
recycle bin that comes with bags in which I will have to do extra work and separate even more crap all so they can just
Mix them all together anyways.

What a load of crap.

They want people to do the work for them and pay them for the pleasure!

I already know a lot of recycling material is just taken to the dump and mixed in.
They are calling it recycle+
So that begs the question, if this is recycling what the heck is the regular recycle bin for?
They are calling this a “subscription” service. 🤣😂🤑
Did a Netflix executive get fired and move over to Waste Management?!!!

HEEELARIOUS!

Also if you put in foam, like the stuff that comes in shipping boxes, they will charge you extra to boot!

Recycling post consumer material has always been a big pain. You never know what is mixed in that trash.

I used to work in post indistrial plastic recycling and that was bad enough. The shipments were supposed to be from industrial processes and quality failures. We sometimes got machinery parts mixed into the bails of plastic. Nuts and bolts, temperature controllers, crow bars, chains, etc...

Even 'trained' workers cannot keep trash out of the recyclables.

You are also right about a lot of recyclables being landfilled because it would cost too much to separate out the contaminant material.

We have 3 barrels here. Waste, recycle, and green waste. All bones go into the green barrel along with yard waste.
. I received a warning for not separating correctly, with a $1000 fine threat

I put only cardboard boxes in the recycling can. Everything else goes in the trash can. We don't buy much that comes in recyclable material. I once put some packaging material that was labeled recyclable into the recyclable can. They took it from the recyclable can and threw it on my lawn.

I work for my counties Landfill. Our recycle bins do go off to recycling centers, not just dumped into the landfill. And we separate stuff like wood and yard debris and make things like mulch and compost.

I will say though, the customers love recycling (because it’s free) but they also suck at recycling. I constantly find the wrong materials and straight up garbage in all of my recycling bins. Cardboard is the worst too. We accept flattened corrugated cardboard only, but people are constantly throwing plastics, the wrong kind of cardboard, and food contaminated/wet cardboard in. I’ve made signs, I’ve made displays, but nothing seems to register with most customers.

I don't even use the recycle bin that come with my regular garbage pickup. It's only used every other week and is way too small for the job.

I use the large dumpsters at the city recycling center..
There is always Styrofoam and vinyl siding in them.

$1000 are they insane!
The problem is that most people are clueless when it come to recycling. They will put things like dirty pizza boxes in there because it has a recyle sign on it.
Also 99% of christmas wrapping paper is NOT recyclable
I'm been more aware and have been buying recyclable ones but not easy to find

Maybe they should not put a recycle sign on pizza boxes then? I mean, it's part of it's function to get dirty with grease, so why even put a recycle sign on it?

Can't blame the people here.

Packing foam peanuts can be made from corn starch. I guess thats more expensive than plastic tho', because they aren't widely used.

You can spread them in your backyard and the dew will melt them. put them in the washer and run a rinse cycle.

Pretty sure there are instructions on most recycle bins on what can and can’t be recycled, but most people don’t read, won’t educate themselves.

Why is there a recycle symbol, because it is recycle-able material. Perhaps the top of the box didn’t get cheese or grease on it, you can rip that part off and recycle it, just not the part that is.

Also certain areas do a much better job of educating their state than others.

Copy that...

In my small village we dug a huge hole in the ground where locals can dump trash and dumpsters for recycling.

We periodically push a large mound of dirt over the hole with trash and move the trash hole to another spot.

Community effort...no charge to dump.

We know how waste management contracts are awarded....State/county nepotism rules.

Not everywhere.

Blue = paper and pizza boxes and other cardboard, free
Black = whatever you want, you pay for it
Yellow = Plastic stuff and tin cans, free
Brown = greens
Orange = biodegradeable (what would go on your compost)

No need to make a science out of it.

Add: Seems the colors are kind of racist nudge

90% of the packing material is advertising BS and there for anti-theft.

A little tube of Aleva comes in a 6" by 4" molded plastic carton, it's crazy it's done because it's small and would be easy to steal, so it can be easily displayed.

Pretty soon stores will just have picture kiosks and or tickets like Brand Smart does on high-ticket items. Then everything could come in one box or boxes, biodegradable with all your stuff in it.

Anything that's not biodegradable or takes up too much space needs to be eliminated. At-home shredders, compactors, and disposals along with composting.

Hell, they could make lots of packaging out of clean burn materials too, along as it isn't toxic burn it.

But none of that addresses the Industrial waste problem not to mention the corporations would fight it tooth and nail and pass the additional costs down to the consumer.

All the environmental jibber jab is all for show and nothing else. They want to ban a teeny tiny awesome straw but don't care about the giant plastic cup you are using.
They want to make your stove electric, while sending monster sized boats, trucks and airplances around the globe every day.
They want you to stop eating meat, while at the same time telling you not to grow veggies in your yard.

Yea those self disintegrating peanuts are cool. I sell stuff on eBay so I repurpose inbound boxes for things we buy and I reuse the peanuts and bubble wrap. Only one damage claim since 2012.

Confusion arises on cardboard as they allow you to toss mail, magazines and used newspapers in the bin. So I put all kinds of cardboard that's NOT corrugated.

I wonder if they will come for me.

Out here we don't have curbside- you bring your trash to the dump when they're open, or not at all.

They only allow CLEAR trash bags, so they can see what you throw in the hopper.
I'm not a fan of that.

Cardboard goes in the cardboard compactor, white paper goes in the white paper bin. Tin cans go in the tin-bin.
Random steel goes in the steel pile.
Misc. construction debris, you pay by the pound to put in that pile... which is BS when you've got sheetrock to get rid of.
Brush goes in the brush pile, if it's open. Most of the year, it isn't- but most people have woods behind their houses to dump it in too...

Greasy paper goes in the hopper.
Plastic goes in the hopper.
Glass goes in the hopper.
Electronic waste goes in the hopper.
Food waste goes in the hopper.

Anything that isn't specifically supposed to go in another bin... goes in the hopper.
They crush it and ship it off to the city, and pay by the ton out of my tax dollars to incinerate.

Wow another scam to make money, in the US from 40 million or so of recycle trash on 5 to 6 percent is recycle, soo is nothing but a joke the recycle initiatives.

here in GA in my area we do not do have recycle bins, but we have recycled points where you are encouraged to divide your own trash and take it there.

If you have a truck that is ok, but when you have a car, is no way in hell I am putting trash in my car.

At least they asked.

In this area you would've gotten another bin, then told what your new rate will be.

Our local “Landfill” as it is now called, has a pilot program to get people to remove food from garbage. They will turn it into compost and give it away to the towns people, but I imagine they will begin to charge. So new, tighter rules for garbage here as well, so increased prepaid garbage bag usage and most likely a second charge for food removal, seperate from the garbage. I wish I had a wood stove. I wood burn everything that I could get away with.
