If the GOP had allowed the government to be shutdown, it would've guaranteed them losing seats next year.

It's also worth remembering to expel a member of Congress it requires a 2/3 vote. If Gaetz gets expelled it would mean that over half of the Republicans in the House voted for his expulsion, assuming the Dems are unanimous in voting to expel him.

Things are about to get real interesting.

For congress it was an amazingly clean spending bill, honestly I was shocked it was that clean.

Gaetz is the one I think in trouble, hes not exactly a hugely popular guy himself, and playing with military paychecks, social security checks and welfare checks is a bad look no matter the reason.

I would be more inclined to side with the freedom caucus if they put their own paychecks on the line with a shutdown, but thats not what happens so I think this is a fairly good resolution for the moment.

ETA: Also Gaetz helped sink a spending bill that included an 8% cut on spending for the year, so he is stupid, that would have played well in the press and he sank it because he doesnt like mcarthy.

I love how they all have protective feelz for McCarthy, who’s part of the hardcore RINO team, if he gets any pressure from the conservative wing.
