This may seem like a stupid post but I think there is more to this story.

www.foxnews.com...

I’m sure most people on ATS have or had a Dog at some point in their life and What any Dog owner knows is that your Dog is a Direct reflection of you .

How well your dog obeys , How your Dog acts around other people and just the General Character of your Dog is on some level deeply connected to who you are as a person.

Take Joe Biden's Dog ‘ Commander’ . He has at this point bitten at least 11 people that we are aware of , So in Truth that Dog has probably bitten at least twice that many. ‘ Commander’ is a German Shepard. Now I’ve owned multiple Dog breeds in my Life Labs, Pit bulls , German Shepard's , Beagles and Dotsons.

They are what you raise them to be and yes that Includes Pit bulls , Pit bulls are the most loving family friendly Dogs I have ever encountered . I currently have two Pits a Male and a Female and I will never own another dog Breed.

Anyways back on subject , I suggest that ‘ Commander ‘ is a direct reflection of his Master Joe Biden.

Absolutely 100% correct. It is 99.999% the owners fault and not the dog itself. And in the cases where the dog is behaving strangely by nature, then it's the owners fault for not picking up on that and making a difference.

I grew up with dogs around, our family always had hunters and at least two dogs, often three dogs. So the younger could learn from the older ones, what made it a lot easier to cover the different dog traits, like hyper driven. It was only naturally to get "my" own dog and I had a Belgian Shepherd. She had hyper drive, one fast move and she was into playing and excited up to the ears. However if I had not done sport with her regular, she would have been very sad. There was one time she was so frustrated about not being able to go do our thing (Sch3 training similar to what is K9 in the US), she would start destroying things to vent her energy.

People forget that dogs are not humans, treating a dog like a human is cruel for the animal and ends up badly most of the time. Even more so when these people not listen to advice they asked for!!

I would have thought that there are capable people in the secret service, that would keep an eye on the dog but seems that is not happening. Also someone that owned dogs before, would act on the problems arising. 11 times bitten is 11 times to often!

My theory is that someone on the marketing team said it would make Biden more relateable and that's why the dog exists in this situation.

Poor dog and people having to be around it, it probably was never shown it is not the pack leader. And that also is a reflection back on Biden, he is not a pack leader either.

I thought I was experiencing my first ever "Mandela effect" reading that.
But no,I was thinking about a previous German Shepherd owned by Biden, called Major-who did much the same thing!

It all started with the famous shower incident-but it soon prgressed to biting visitors..

On November 28, 2020, then-President-elect Biden fractured his foot while playing with Major.[10] Biden said in an interview that Major was waiting to play after the president-elect emerged from a shower: "I'm joking, running after him and grab his tail.

en.wikipedia.org...(Joe_Biden's_dog)

Is it maybe the same dog-but Biden changed ts name from major to Commander to hide its crimes??

Sounds like a micro of the macro.

Joes dog likes Joe and his family only. He bites everyone else. Just like his owner.

I’ve never seen a president before that so outwardly hates the people he serves.

He has two. Apparently, both raised poorly.
And the previous one, champ, also was raised poorly.
Apparently incidents with all 3.

Not a stupid topic, OP, this is a real issue. For a dog to bite someone 10 times and not be removed is BS. The most dangerous thing about working in the White House should be danger of espionage, not getting bitten by the president's dog.

I think they will never be able to raise this breed of a dog around so many people; this dog needs one master, not a hundred of them. Send this dog off to where he'll be happy and get a corgi or something, or a poodle.

They already had sent Major to Biden's house, for bitting. Guess Commander wants to be with him.

You would think they could afford a specialized dog trainer.

Hell, we have one, for German Shepards and Belgian Malinois here in our little town.

Being used so much for police dogs, there are lots of trainers.

If the dog is poorly trained, or the owner doesn't bond properly with the dog, it will be a poorly behaved dog.
All dogs have teeth.
Whether is it a poodle, a dachshund, a German Shepherd or a Great Dane.

And in the Real World, a dog that bites is either euthanized or kept in a house that has no homeowners insurance policy.

ETA
And, I also thought the OWNER was involved in training a dog. Afterall, the TRAINER doesn't live with the dog.

They did send him to training, and then re-training if I recall correctly what I read. He's trained, he just doesn't fit in his environment.

I've raised two German Shepherds and many other dogs... a Doberman, a Vizsla, a Beagle, a Boston Terrier and a few Chihuahuas and a couple of mutts. Shepherds are great dogs, but they need one master and they need space. Doberman is the same, he'll go crazy with multiple inputs and masters. He'll start biting people.

The Bidens are being stubbornly dumb not giving this dog what he really needs.

I agree.
I’ve owned Pits or Pit mixes for my entire life and they are the best dogs.
We have 2 now, a 9 year old male and a 1 year old female.

It’s a shame about this dog that Biden “owns”, I doubt he has any interaction with the dog at all.
It’s probably taken care of by 20 different people and he probably gets mistreated.

I don’t blame the dog at all, just the owners or handlers.

Amazing.
Biden can’t even own a dog properly.
Is there one single thing the fool can do correctly ?

The dog probably growls if Biden gets anywhere near him.

Are we forgetting to give Barry Soetoro (Obama) his due?

But, yes, your point is def 100% valid. He's NOT the "man of the common/working people" he has always attempted to present himself as.

German Shepard's are a working Breed they need Purpose and Direction . From a young age you have to make them Human friendly and make it clear who their Master or Masters are .

A shepherds Purpose can be simple , Raise them to Play fetch and respond to simple commands , beyond that they have a natural tendency to protect and check things out constantly . But If the Dog is never properly Broken and Never properly trained how to respond to strangers the Dog is going to be a walking Land-Mine.

German Shepard's are cool dogs and people like to own them but in Truth they are not the best dogs to have . They should have just gotten Biden a Lab or A Golden Retriever they are a Dogs Dog .

Same for Husky. I came to knew many "ruined" Husky because the owner bought them for their magnificent looks but never thought about the fact it is a working breed.

About what you write Mahogany, sheperds can do very well in most environments. Yes they need (and will only really listen) to one master, but your theory about them not being around that many people is wrong. We trained this in group training, where we would assemble a group in- or outdoors ranging from three to as much people we could find. And the purpose is that they chat, play (older kids involved too), make noise, even fire blanket guns and you walk between those people.

It is actually part of the Begleithundeprüfung, an exam that makes sure you dog does not go after joggers or bike riders. Basically it is to get them used to not act on their drive until the owner / master gives the okay. And this does not mean send the dog to bite, but as the pack leader, the human decides, not the dog.

There are people out there and people I met here in discussions that think turning a dog on it's back when it tests the pack order is cruel, yet it is one of the most important steps in raising a dog, for it's own good. The other result would lead in an accident and people or other animals hurt and eventually the dog put down.

A shepherd can and will be comfortable in many places and also listen to others from the pack, but if there is no master, changing masters, it will have no reference. It won't just start randomly biting because of that, it just never learned that biting hurts people and never got to face the consequences.

That is why it is so important to do all this in puppy stage training phase and not when the dog is 12+ months old, that boat already sailed away by then. Also seems the dog was never propperly socialized with other dogs, or it would know that bites can hurt. They learn by playing. By the age of 12 months they slowly loose the inhibition to make a full force bite and then that means trouble down the road.

Omg yes Huskies are an absolute Nightmare.

The only True way to Train a Husky is to Get them from a Puppy and be with them every second of Every day for a Year or more really. Huskies are a mutant Hybrid of German Shepard's and a Domestic Cat. They are Beautiful Dogs and Wildly Intelligent but turn your back on them for even a second and they will shred your whole house, that is if they are not properly trained.

That being said If you manage to train a Husky they are wonderful Dogs to have very funny and vocal.

Dogs and Cat`s can not breet and reproduce. Thats 100% BS I am sorry.

A Husky is allways a crossbreed of two different canines.

Huskies, because of the reason you described, should also never be held solely. They are pack animals more than most dogs and need socializing. Most husky I came to know in the dog training club were very dominant towards other dogs, too.

Not surprised by it, because the people that bred them even had them around at night, they were treated like family and also were valuable, too. So I guess they were also welcomed not only as family but another warm body heating the sleeping place and as well to protect them.

Not sure about the hybrid thing, never heard about that.

Today I would not get another dog. For one, there will be no dog able to replace said Belgian. She was truly amazing and one of a kind. From all the dogs we had in family (I count brothers and sisters family of my parents too) she was most amazing personality, protecting, gentle with kids, I could trust her blindly. She was just legendary and even classmates on the last reunion remembered her fondly. And I do not want to taint any memories about her.

And then I also changed my mind about owning dogs. I could not deliver what I could give to my dog and I also see it as a kind of dependency that I do not want to have over an animal, in this phase of life.
