Baby Boomers: 1946-1964
Gen X: 1965-1980
Millenials: 1981-1996
Gen Z: 1997-2012
In 2024, Millenial and Gen Z voters will make up 48% of the eligible voting population.
Additionally, by 2026, Generation Z is set to be the first majority non white generation. Most likely prompting them to vote for representatives of
similar backgrounds.
By 2028, these two demographics will comprise a majority of the voting block, while still being 100% under the age of 50.
Also in 2028, Generation X is set to outnumber the Baby Boomer population.
Taking these factors into consideration, 2024 could be the very last election year that older generations, primarily boomers, are going to have much
influence on. The end of an era and the beginning of a new cycle.
The youth tends to vote more liberal than conservative but I'd expect that initial boosts for liberalism to level out over time as these generations
get older and more invested in the status quo. And the cycle begins again.
If you're not a liberal when you're young, you have no heart and if you're not a conservative when you're old, you have no brain.
I agree with Thomas Jefferson when he said:
"The question Whether one generation of men has a right to bind another, seems never to have been started either on this or our side of the water…
(But) between society and society, or generation and generation there is no municipal obligation, no umpire but the law of nature. We seem not to have
perceived that, by the law of nature, one generation is to another as one independant nation to another… On similar ground it may be proved that no
society can make a perpetual constitution, or even a perpetual law. The earth belongs always to the living generation… Every constitution, then, and
every law, naturally expires at the end of 19. years. If it be enforced longer, it is an act of force and not of right."
New blood, new rules and new ways of thinking every 20 years or so.
I believe that alot of the strife we see today and in what we call this "culture war" can be attributed to the current shift. Those in their prime are
ready to take charge while the established refuse to relinquish power.
Saturn feared being usurped by his children, so he devoured them and they were trapped inside his stomach. Once the Gods came of age and overthrew the
Titans, Jupiter chained Saturn in Tartarus.
An excellent example of Jeffersons binding of the generations going both ways.
