I've seen two camps regarding the Babie movie...

First camp, it's a Feminazi movie that is anti-man

Second camp, it's not really anti-man but more woman empowering while encouring men to explore their softer side.

Conspiracy Theorist view............... The entire time I watched it I had a totally different view.... totally.

Forget the pink, the outfit, the ken, the barbies............Look deeper...
FOLKS... this is the Truman Show, AGAIN.

For those that believe in the powers that be, in Karma in all of that stuff. Apparently they have to show us "things".
What the Barbie movie shows is so disturbing... Men and women in a foggy haze, not understanding that they live in a pretend world and that there is
ANOTHER world beyond the veil... oh yes.. it's deep. They also show spirits and how they live between world.
They also show that men and women are fighting because those in power have created that power struggle.

wow, just wow...

Don't care.
I never had any interest in it. I'm obviously not it's target audience.

But the number of grown men I saw arguing about it was deeply concerning.

My sister saw it, she said it was meh. Personally I have no desire to see it, looked really vapid and superficial from the trailers to me. ::shrug:: Maybe you're just trying to see a more than meets the eye purpose here vs what the movie actually is?

I don't think I should comment on it without first seeing it myself, soooooo, thanks. I WAS planning on a peaceful afternoon of NASCAR, football, good food and drink, but no. j/k

I confess to having been put off by my impressions of the whole concept, and the trailers of all the pinkness. As with Watchitburn, it didn't seem like my thing. Still, I'll have a look, and if I can stand it, I'll report back here.

Measurable data, that's my bailiwick.

I went back and forth, as Barbie is not something that I really liked as a child and didn't really have an opinion one way or another. I'm glad I decided to watch it. I do think it is the Truman show 2.0.

The person I was with that is not a conspiracy theorist actually said, this is the Truman show, and I nodded my head.

It is packaged differenlty, but the message is exactly the same...

Here's what I got.
- we are mass brainwashed
- very few control the masses
- there are "worlds" beyond ours
- outside interference has a big impact on our world/life
- power is often an illusion, where as real power is behind closed doors
- our thoughts/imagination are a lot more powerful than we have been led to believe...

and a lot more....

Many people think they are open minded, but really aren't. I'd love your take if you watch it.
It's actually kinda creepy.

Yea lots of people say that she is in a fantasy world in her mind when in reality she is a psychopathic killer.

My sister certainly wouldn't pick up on any of that so I can't really ask her, but I would if I watch it. Maybe when it becomes available on one of my streaming services for free I'll check it out and see if I get Truman vibes. To be fair though you can find a lot of those themes in most movies now a days if you know what your looking for, Hollywood is pretty blatant about showing us things.

I’m secure enough to say that lady is beautiful. She is a good actress too.
I wasn’t too sure about Ryan Gossling as Ken, but I understand why they choose him.
I thought he was a little on the old side and maybe not 100% Ken look, but I think they were going for something deeper.
He fits the role quite well.

Never played with Barbies. No interest in seeing the movie.
It got a lot of hype for some reason. I just don't see the appeal.

Aside from my conspiracy spin, I actually think it’s a good movie. I was cracking up half the time. I heard a lot of people cried, which I really didn’t get, but I do think it is worth seeing.

The whole time I was watching it I was also wondering is this how aliens see us? Are they talking about what is on the other side of Antarctica?
Who are the people in the boardroom and who are their real life counterparts… Maybe the elite have a sick sense of humor.

Maybe there isn’t more and I’m just too much of a conspiracy theorist… but so far my track record hasn’t let me down…

I did not like the doll, way back when it first came out. I actually watched my little sisters playing fantasy with one so I took it one afternoon when they were somewhere else, fashioned as small noose and hung it by the neck in their doorway. I was so unfeeling.

Anyway, I saw the previews at the theater and hung my head in grief as I told my sister who was there with me that ''gee, I hate myself for this, but I want to see this one''

So we did and we roared and roared. It was so blindingly stupid it went way beyond the suspension of disbelief.. It portrayed both of the love/hate themes that it presented and dealt with them in such a manner as to make it thoroughly entertaining as well as thoughtful.

But, just like the advent of the doll itself, people will take the movie as they want, love it or hate it. I loved it.Stupid Barbe, stupid movie, stupid me.

I did find this, it would appear the director took some inspiration from "The Truman Show"

Screen Rant Barbie Movie Director Consulted Truman Show Director

"The Truman Show is all about stepping outside of comfort zones to confront reality. Truman has lived his entire life in a literal bubble, surrounded by people who serve as paid actors in his own personal story. After encountering the truth, he could have elected to live his entire life within the lie. Instead, The Truman Show ends with Truman walking free, no longer bound to his island and having faced his fears.

Barbie shares that exact same story, as instead of returning to Barbieland and shunning the Real World, Barbie accepts the idea of pain, loss, and even outright death. She turns away from a life of dolls and instead explores a world that is not inhabited by toys and bright pink joy. Her existential crisis concludes with the idea that life is worth living even if loss is inevitable. Ken, too, finds a way to live without Barbie and without falling prey to the concept of the patriarchy."

Quoted from the article.

So basically same theme and concepts, just a different way to portraying it onscreen.

The question though JAGStorm, is that most of your interpretation is discussed daily here on ATS, who made who?

I haven't seen it, and really have no reason to, thank goodness my daughters are grown.

Have no doubt the movie has an agenda to push...

Haven't seen it, but family thinks it's ok. I just can't stand that actor that plays Ken. He's like Ben Stiller from Zoolander. That magnum face, and it never changes. Very one dimensional as an actor.

But maybe I'll watch the movie now if there is a Matrix like depth to it.
