The federal government has slapped a punitive 10-year ban on China’s Wuhan Institute of Virology, barring it from getting any money through the Health and Human Services Department.
Wuhan has been at the center of speculation about the origins of the coronavirus and was found to have performed risky research using U.S. taxpayer money.
“After years of conducting dangerous gain-of-function research at inadequate biosafety levels, cutting off all American taxpayer dollars from the WIV is an essential and obvious step in the right direction,” said Rep. Brad Wenstrup, chairman of the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic.

just as long as nobody has to admit to anything. If you start asking questions, then it's back to the fuggin pangolin humping a bat theory. Don't make us go back there.

So I'm confused. Fauci specifically said there was no gain of function. He was very clear that it was only enhanced with improve functionality to be more better at infecting humans. This sure seems to make clear that all that enhancement and more functionality was really GoF.
I just can't believe St. Anthony would have deceived us about his involvement in causing worldwide deaths in the millions.

Now, full disclosure, I don't know where exactly we are on the timeline of the "lab leak theory." Yet, I know that by this admission from the government that "theory" is no longer part of the above quote.
It's factual.
If this doesn't stand as the quintessential instance of the government not being able to fix the problems it creates, yet like a parasite consumes everything from the host nation, I don't know what else does.
More to the point, those gain-of-function research experiments were sponsored by America, but it was an international collaboration, conducted in Wuhan, and led by an American scientist..who was warned by some of his peers, not to proceed.
