It just seems that our 4 hour editing window is closer to 2 - 3 hours.

A post I made at 12:35pm today can't be edited at 3:50pm, and I notice this sort of thing all the time.

What gives?

Someone notify the programer that 4 hours = 240 minutes = 14,400 seconds.

To be exact, you have 120 minutes.

If you edit a post before the deadline lapses, a message appears telling you how many minutes are still available for editing, and the countdown starts from 120. If you try to edit immdiately after posting, the figure is likely to be 119.

Whoever set up the systam and wrote the message evidently had a bit of a brain lapse and was thinking thirty minutes to the hour. That's ATS time.

Someone should change the timing to 240 minutes

or change the message to say "You have exceeded the maximum window of 2 hours allowed to edit your post."

I would prefer the former. Maybe this is something Darko can fix, since some other longstanding problems have been fixed since the site changed ownership.

Hell no, i had posts edited, or even deleted, within hours, LOL Get too close to a topic, and they will shut you down, member or not.

Bull. We have never pulled a thread or post because someone “Got too close to a topic”. We only pull them for T&C violations.

Ha, i had 1 or 2 convo's pulled, and had members banned mid-sentence. When i posted on the RATS forum years ago, about why dont we have discussions on,say, drug abuse, the response i got from admin was that "we simply do not discuss these topics on ATS"
Why not? As i pointed out to S at the time; If we refrain from discussing this topic, we will never find an answer"
I was given a warning and very nearly banned for that.
So i can't post ANYTHING about drugs, but i can say your ancestors were alien.
Free speech, but within certain boundaries.

When i quit Pegasus, i had to delete 63000 pages of my own work, about 4 years of my life.
It left a lot of black holes, but i had no other choice. The DOD and other spooks were not only stealing our work, but also destroying all the forums. The same 3 letter agencies control this site, or appear to. I have seen the IP's of visitors to this site, and you would not believe some of those names!
But the very fact that i am still here, says enough. I have survived several attempts to kill me, do you think i fear a character asassination rather than a real one? Pff, both attempts backfired. Do i care if i get banned from ATS? Well, i like it here, but it would be their loss, not mine. I am simply here to encourage the new members to question everything, from day one...

It’s a privately owned site, so freedom of speech doesn’t apply. And you can claim whatever all you want but I’ve been a moderator for a long time now, and I can say with absolute certainty that we have never yanked a topic for someone “getting too close”, and anyone that was banned “mid-sentence” worked at it and was banned for other reasons. Members aren’t banned lightly, and without multiple chances barring egregious violations.

I sometimes edit my Thread Starting posts 5 or 6 times. You have to erase the "Edited because" statement that appears after each edit is completed, or you'll end up with multiple instances of that system generated verbiage.
