The mystery golden orb was discovered by NOAA Ocean Exploration team 2 miles below the surface off the coast of Alaska much to the puzzlement of the team who discovered it.

This golden “egg” was seen by a team of NOAA-backed researchers off the southern coast of Alaska. Experts aren’t sure what it is.

There, at a depth of about 2 miles, sat a shiny golden orb — with a perplexing hole in it.

“Something tried to get in ... or to get out,” one researcher observed in a live feed.

In the debate that followed, the team made funny references to everything from the X-Files to classic monster movies. It was ultimately decided a sample of the orb was needed to examine its DNA.

Amazing. It definitely looks organic, but that colour... so shiny.

I'm going with The Golden Goose Retirement Fund.

Looked more like a cocoon to me?

Maybe we DON"T want to know what came out of it?

Maybe just an innocent and harmless golden baby Buddha.

Wow, at first i thought maybe a couple of baby angler fish or something like that...

But then around the 2:45+ mark, the "thing" beckons the ROV closer with its hand!!! Fingers, Knuckles, wow...

Edited to add:

OH OH...

It was ultimately decided a sample of the orb was needed to examine its DNA.

Maybe it shouldn't have beckoned the ROV....

LOL, Doubt we would get that lucky.
I've watched too many horror movies.

My first impression was of a giant pimple that would make an audible noise when popped and release tons of particulate matter sprayed in random directions...

Sharks have some pretty strange looking eggs, not an octopus or squid, to big for a seahorse,

Just some new species then if they don't know? Don't 'experts' discover new species every year still?

Must have been a big goose!!

Glad that the dude from Harvard didn't find it first and claim it as interstellar probe or something! Wonder if there is such things as "gold meteors"? Might be. Might explain why it is a bubble and the hole in the side (the interior melted at a different rate than the expanding gold from the gas the whole thing was creating when slamming through the atmosphere).

But I like the idea of it being "organic"!

Alaska, keeping the world strange!
