Richmond Pk (Surrey) is very near to HMP Wandsworth (SW London). Police doing a search of the park makes sense. There are a number of small airfields in Surrey - quick escape route out of UK, probably on private charter?

its as easy to do a luncan and get on a ferry or small boat from any coastal resort all of which are served by trains from london, otr as you say any of the small and private airstrips the litter the south*

*as an oldie the south is sussex, surrey and hampshire.. fastest route out of the country from london has always been straight to the coast.. its not as though we have ever monitored the coast along the bay of sussex, with the shoals its not the strait of dover so only small boats/trawlers can sail comfortably

newhaven is a good point of departure, when the icelandic volcano blew up killing air travel, and when the likes of dover have massive 20 mile tail backs newhaven will be empty as everyone forgets it exists as a working port..

if he headed south then small airstrip, newhaven ferry, one of the small sussex marinas would be my bet.

In my experience I've been waved through with no baggage checks - I was instructed not to put my luggage through the scanner because 'You're oviously not a terrorist'. If cycling on a ferry you're the first person to be let off once it docks and customs just wave you through without checking pasport or luggage.

---
More news on the escape - the independent counter terrorism chief says he should have faced espionage charges and should have been placed in Cat A prisons for breaking the Official Secrets Act and being a high escape risk.

The chief inspector of prisons has also announced Wandsworth Prison should be closed due to conditions but it's impossible to do so due to lack of prisons.

Seems odd for him to be such a popular park given the high profile hunt but hope they catch him ASAP as he's a very dangerous and capable of big terror attacks.

I've been in Richmond Park a couple of times and found it empty on weekdays. Not convenient for the office lunch crowds, I suppose.

having lived in Newhaven when I left brighton (£££housing) but growing up with the dieppe beer run i've never seen baggage checks to get on a ferry, its my first thought of an easy escape route, as the port of newhaven is owned by a french company and they have no real interest in updating the port from its 70s iteration it fails to mirror the upgrades to Dieppe.

in terms of similarities its like the using the isle of wight ferries.. red funnel or Wightlink.

eta there is certainly a lot more to this.. i recall at one point the belief was the sis had more members in the ira than the ira did.. or maybe it was wishful thinking..

Not sure that he is actually a "Terror Suspect"?

More like, espionage?

I can't actually find the specific charges or offences he was remanded for listed but the BBC had this to say.

The former soldier was on remand awaiting trial in relation to terrorism and Official Secrets Act offences, including preparing an act of terrorism and collecting information useful to an enemy. He was allegedly working for a hostile state.

In February, Westminster Magistrates' Court heard he allegedly left fake devices at MOD Stafford, where he was based, "with the intention of inducing in another the belief the item was likely to explode or ignite".

A previous court appearance heard he "elicited" personal information about soldiers from the Ministry of Defence Joint Personnel Administration System which was "likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism" in 2021.

I don't think many of us could say we had heard of him before he escaped.
I'm beginning to think, as they knew he was spying for Iran, that they were on to him whilst in the military, so they fed him a few 'lies' to pass on. They then arrest him and effectively let him 'escape' for some reason we will never know.
That whole smoke and mirrors thing....
Just mulling....

Was thinking the same thing. Maybe so they can track him to his handlers?

All very odd.

It's the good ole cock up or conspiracy thing.

Should have been in Belmarsh and certainly not working in a kitchen in Wandsworth.

How is he "very dangerous and capable of big terror attacks"? The lad was in prison for leaving fake bombs on camp.

Julian Assange , Journalist held in Belmarsh Top Security prison for the last 4 years for exposing war crimes of the West.

Daniel Khalife , held in HMP Wandsworth Cat C prison accused of passing military secrets to Iran.

Who is the greater danger to the British public ?

Pathetic justice system is pathetic.

His army training is what I'm basing most of my opinion of him being very capable.

He's facing charges for preparing an act of terrorism on August 2nd 2021 with no additional info about the plot; it could be a plot or it could be relating to when he stole documents that could help someone/an enemy state prepare an act of terror.

The bomb hoax is a seperate plot carried out on 2nd Jan 2023 - I may have misread reports but I think was under the belieff the devices were viable. There have been terror plots before where MI5 swapped ingredients to prevent terrorists from making viable bombs.

He managed to plant three of them on the base before being discovered where I exoect they'd have far better security than in public places. He seems to know how to avoid cameras and hard to see how his escape was possible without people/an enemy state helping him escape.

There's a lot of speculation he was giving the info to Iran or some form of handlers and nation states generally use very intelligent, highly capable people so there's minimal chance of them being caught and identities of spys/agents from being discovered.

He's was remanded for more than just fake bomb threats.

It's all or nothing for the boy now Celt88.

If he's caught, he will be straight into a category A high-security jail this time around.

And held to account for escaping as well as the multitude of other charges hes accumulated when/if he lands in court.

This means he will probably be pretty much willing to do anything to keep that from happening, anything to retain his freedom, and anything to remain at large, which means he may indeed present a danger to the public and those in pursuit.

The whole entire story smells funny gortex.

He should never have been in that cat B jail, and the fact that he was just does not sit right.

It smells fishy to me as when I drove haulage (about 3 years ago) I had a job delivering breakfast cereals to prisons around the Midlands and Wales , security getting in and out was tight and I always had a prison officer walk in front of the truck to the delivery area and the same on the way out , they never left me or the vehicle while I was there so how this chap managed to get under the vehicle then strap himself to it suggests either lax security or he had help from a prison officer.

Red faces all round I think.

Just seen this, seems fully confirmed they arrested him around 11 am.

Great work by SIS, police and public - hopefully he'll be placed in Cat A now.
