If You Were a Hippopotamus

If you were a hippopotamus,
Your life would be autonomous,
No one would tell you what to do,
You'd be free to just be you..

If you were a pink fairy armadillo,
You would be so very cute and little,
Hardly anyone would notice you,
You'd still be free to just be you.

If you were a paradoxical frog,
You'd be facinating dialog,
Discussed by every scientist,
But you'd still be able to freely exist.

If you were a tiny sparklemuffin,
You'd sit in your web doing nothing,
Except being exactly who you wish,
And no one would even question this.

If you were a homo sapien,
You'd be told time and time again,
Exactly what you can and can't do,
You are never free to be just you.

I've always thought it would be better to be an animal..., but which one?

Perhaps a parrot, I could still talk, tell people to stuff it... and they'd think it's cute!

Well that's putting us in our place.

My dairy cow co-workers and I could see horses on the other side of the fence. We would pause and wistfully think, "So free! If only ...."
