Effort and hard work and not giving up can lead to reward.

Which is the exact OPPOSITE of what they are learning if they get passing grades for doing nothing and for cheating. Common sense.

What a joke. "Equitable grading" they say. All it means is that those who put in the effort and work hard to get high grades will be indirectly punished. It means that those who cheat/don't bother will be rewarded. They want 'equality' . Or , in orther words, all equally low effort/doing crappy/haven't bothered type grades results.
They want to destroy effort and high achievers.
It's just unbelievable, but yes. They want to destroy the entire education system .
Just part of the purposeful destruction of the US from within

You need to read the finer details of the plan there are no passing grades given for nothing.

Nobody knows the outcome of this plan until it is implemented and looked at from all angles.

I already posted the outcome. It's basic psychology and common sense. The children won't be held accountable. They won't learn responsibility. They won't learn consequences of their actions. What they WILL learn is that they can get a free ride and not have to pull their own weight in life. They'll learn that they can do nothing and get the same outcome as those who actually do the work.

Within the plan it plainly states that children can make up requirements beyond the deadlines, so what are you doing here, glossing over that which doesn't fit your narrative?

I agree with you. It's 'woke' at it's worst.
Reward those who do nothing or who cheat while punishing the hard workers.
It's bizarre and it's destructive.

They don't get a zero for cheating or for doing nothing.

Not getting a zero for whatever reason is not getting a passing grade.

It's not failing them, which is what it should be for cheating or not doing the assignment. That's passing them along. And it's totally UNEARNED.

When you're grading for equity, you're grading for equal outcomes.

You disenfranchise the brilliant students, and artificially raise up the slower students.

Sounds like Washington DC to me.

How do you know it may not be earned after the deadline when they do and hand in the work at their pace?

Deadlines are deadlines, if you miss it you miss it. What is the point of having one if you are going to let people turn in work after it? That's like putting on your seatbelt after you crashed into a ditch, pointless.

There are some teachers who will let you turn in stuff after the deadline but very few and far between.

The present rules aren't working why shoot down them trying different plans to address and hopefully fix the failures in the system?

The rules aren't working because why, because it's hard?

Will people like, have to do homework and spelling instead of FaceBlog?

Why don't we wait to see if they first: implement this plan and second: if they do how it works out?

THe world will always need ditch diggers.

I see it the same if they push kids through then they are not setting anyone up for success and it will only widen the gap between the so-called fortunate and the unfortunate. I told my two boys stuff like this is great for them as the competition for the highest jobs will be less.

"I don't want to go to MIT because it is hard and I will only be in the middle of the pack, I want to go to a crap school and be #1!" mentality. Trophy winners all... We already have issues with people pushed through HS in poor areas who can bearly read or do simple math, so what is this going to do for diversity?

Portland is so F'd up in so many ways...

For you to accept? What is the context of your post?

Actually, this has been implemented before and the fix lies somewhere in the middle without the grading aspect at all.

I gotta ask... what do you see wrong within the traditional style grading system?

Simple, within a 100% grading system you give out a zero, where does that leave the child when you average it out, then going forward for the child?

If they can't follow rules now, are they ever going to? I highly doubt it

The failures in the system are, 9 times out of 10, on the student not the system itself. If you have 100 people taking a test, 5 of them fail, is the test too hard or are those 5 people not up to the standard?
