Heres a quick rundown
Guy writes political song that doesn't identify any of the actual problems or enemies of our people, just vague complaining

Gets astroturfed into viral popularity by con inc.

Some of us notice it is astroturfed, get shouted down by NPCs (not you OP, you're cool) because the song "resonated" with them

Guy starts spouting usual controlled op talking points like "diversity is our strength"

Guy gets upset that conservatives are using his political song that was shilled by every mainstream political commentator about politics (lol wut??)

I'll listen to it again.
First time I heard it, it reminded me of this:

I'm sure other's have sung the song with a little more soul, but Tennessee Ernie Ford's album is what we had in the house.

Sixteen tons is good and has some fight in it. Overworked and underpaid is a timeless tail but sixteen tons also appeals to the toughness of a hard working man with a dont push my to far cause I could take you down attitude. Something the rich men song lacks. It's all complaining and gives nothing redeeming to the listener. Almost demoralizing in the sense of we are all getting screwed but theres mo solution given.
If you compare the lyrics to the rich men song to merle haggard's workin man blues it almost comes across as a cheap imitation, atleast to me.

16 Tons was written in 1946, based on an earlier period before the miners got unionized. As for the toughness, unionizing and union busting was deadly warfare.

Oliver's song does not offer any solutions, true. As I listened to it, I thought "How about those rich men pass some living wage legislation, raise the minimum wage." But yeah, that's missing in the song.

>"How about those rich men pass some living wage legislation, raise the minimum wage."

Because if they legislated for the people and not for their donors then they wouldnt be rich men. If we wait for them to fix the problems that they created then we should all get comfy, its gonna be a while.

Mate I actually work Everyday so i was not aware of the song or any Viral Popularity or anything else.

Yes I'm sure it's ruffled some feathers and Leave it to the Internet to Ruin a good song that speaks to the soul .

The guy wrote a song and now the Media is doing what the Media does and you just eat it right from their hands.

So you think that a song that talks about working overtime, resonated with enough people to hit #1 on music charts, was not heard by people who "actually work Everyday"? LOL

>Yes I'm sure it's ruffled some feathers and Leave it to the Internet to Ruin a good song that speaks to the soul .

The internet, and media in general, does not ruin good songs. It plays bad and mediocre songs over and over and tells you they are great. And what lyrics in the rich man song spoke to your soul?

What exactly am I eating from their hand?

Paying off, also known as donating to, legislators is still WAY cheaper and WAY less of a hassle for big companies than a raise in minimum wage would be.

I don't know who this guy is in the video.

A major driving force for market based economy is consumption (demand). The more money that consumers have available for discretionary spending, the more is consumed. More demand translates to more room for more supply > room for more production > more jobs.

So take tax cuts. If the rich get tax cuts, they put more in stocks. If the poor get tax cuts, they put it into necessary products. Real market economy rather than speculative appreciation of value based on projections of growth, or even betting against market for profit. Short-selling and what-not.

I liked the song Immediately I didn't need someone to tell me it was good or to Interpret it for me , What spoke to me ? A better question is what's got you going all Snow Flake about the song

What exactly am I eating from their hand?

You ask me that question and then you provide a Link that is telling you what to think about the song and it's Artist.

The Blind leading the Blind .

The song was targeted at all Politicians ... I don't need someone to explain that to me least of all some Lefty think-tank .

I liked the song Immediately

I actually like the song too. Very authentic.
Way more real than the Merle Haggart song that FormerlyChucks referenced.
That song was someone singing about someone else's work experience.
Made me think of:

You said you didnt hear it because you had been working Every day. Try to keep up with your own comments.

so you looked at the lyrics and realized how bland the lyrics are that's why you wont answer my question. Its lyrically very basic and the hype around this song is what annoys me. This isnt organic. But since I gave my opinion in a public forum, in a public post about discussing this song, I'm a snowflake because you disagree with me....

That link has a video of the singer talking about the song.

I don't mind the hype. The song got pushed to number 1 pretty quick. It pushed Try That in a Small Town way down. That's a plus.

I didn't even mind the lyrics of that song much. It was the video images making mental connections with the words that disturbed me. But I think those have been changed or something. First impressions though.

The point being ' I' singular , I'm not trying to speak for everyone.

I answered your question with a question .

Why are you being such a snow flake about the song ? My opinion of the song is simple , I like it from start to finish inside and out . You claim the lyrics are simple ..... Okay and yet his " Simple" lyrics have grasp at the core of America almost immediately.

I know why you don't like the song you don't have to explain it , I promise your not complicated.
