Sounds like a conversation with my mom ( I love her dearly).
But often, when I point out something she could have done differently to get a better outcome or so (like the time she paid $250 for a car tire alignment at a diy guy she knows , and I paid $100 and got a free brake check) , she will make a face and just stop talking/change the subject. It's infuriating, but what can you do.

I think it's a narcissitc trait TBH.

Going to try and reply from the perspective of a Canadian lefty. Which means, as far as I understand that I'm probably closer to a centrist in the US since our extremes (on both sides) are much less extreme.

A lot of people see positive and negative about both sides of the political ideologies. Which means I don't support everything the left has to offer, and I don't hate everything the right believes in either. I do find in most elections the guy on the left more often than not aligns with my beliefs more than the guy on the right, but not completely.

Some examples.......

I do not believe in unions. In fact I hate unions and will never shift that far left. Huge believer in the free market, which of course is a right wing idealogy.

Depsite what a lot of people think, the left is allowed to hate high taxes and high gas prices (we have them in Canada as well). But we understand that these things are not completely in the control of the government of your respective country. Inflation and supply chain issues have hit the world over. That's not Biden's fault and it's not Trudeau's fault. They just happen to be the guys sitting in the chair when it happens. I'm not saying they don't have any influence on these issues, but not as much as some believe. So yes, I vote left and hate high taxes and inflation as much as you.

One of the key reason I won't vote right is due to environment issues. Again, I am aware most on here consider the climate change situation a hoax. I'm a bit more science based and believe that mankind is having a huge impact on our planet. No one on the right ever priorities the environment over the almighty dollar. And if someone doesn't frankly we're royally eff'd

I keep hearing that liberals are useless bottom feeders who live off the taxpayer and are usually unemployed. My family and I couldn't be further from that. I'm an engineer, and between my wife and I our financial guy has told us we're likely in the top 10% of income earners in the city we live in. I was much more conservative when I was a student and had no money than I am now.

Gun rights - I'm an avid hunter. So I believe in gun rights to a certain degree. I do not believe that folks need handguns for any reason but will always stand up for the rights of hunters and those that use firearms for the purposes of hunting.

I'm pro-abortion depsite being Roman Catholic. Why? Because i believe in a woman's right to decide what to do with her own body.

So again, I realize that Canadian politics are not nearly as extreme as US politics, although we are slowly getting there. But it's not always black and white. Most people I know fall into this category. They like a little from column A and a little from column B and you just go with the party that checks the most boxes.

My humble 2 cents.

It doesn't take a top 10% earning engineer to look at the Biden Administrations policies and actions since taking office to figure out why fuel prices are exorbitant and inflation is through the roof. And it happens every time one of these far left bozo's gets into the "chair". No happenstance involved.

I'll leave the rest for someone else. I don't feel like writing a novel today.

Hello CLM

Lucky you, your healthcare is provided by your government. Americans don’t always have that luxury!

Imagine if you will: working for over 30-40 years to be taxed by your government to pay for the feeding/healthcare/housing for illegal aliens who just came to your neighborhood, while Vets who served your country get left out in the cold.

You may know soon enough, because some of our new illegal crossovers hate NY hotels, bitch about the free food and crime and a lot are heading to Canada.

Biden destroyed our energy sector for the Green New (unsustainable) deal. Trudeau shut off access to truckers bank accounts when they tried to protest. Trudeau & Biden are thick as thieves.

I won’t claim to know all about Canada. My nana came from there, and I love Canadian Prepper (go there for real news); but I can tell you with 100% certainty that Biden ruined our economy!

Good Day Eh!

Yeah I never understood that. Democrats are the abortion-at-any-time party. The Catholic church is against abortion. Yet so many Catholics keep voting in the abortionist politicians. They pray for an end to abortion on Sunday but then on Tuesday they go vote for the abortion candidate. Never understood that.

Exactly.

The whole system is full of deceit. Both sides hold fast to the lies they have chosen to believe. Both sides believe the other side is stupid and gullible. Neither side has the ability to accept or see what is on the other side of the coin they have imprinted on.

Isn't that the truth...

You would think they would vote for the anointed one like the Evangelicals.

To be fair, that kind of hypocrisy is pretty wide spread. I call them Sunday Christians. They drink, swear, cheat at business and their marriage, but they're there on Sunday in the front row, singing and yellin' amen like they're pure as snow.

I just give'em one of these...

Hell, I'll admit I voted for Obama the first time, but I learned that was a mistake and didn't vote for him again. Others just can't seem to learn.

Ditto that, did the same here. When he killed that American guy in Yemen (and later his 16 year old son, also American) using drone strikes without a single charge, indictment, or even accusation I jumped ship and changed party affiliation.

I enjoy talking politics with my older Democrat neighbor. I often get to say I told you so and hear "you were right" weeks or months after an initial discussion. Sometimes when I know where he is going with a conversation I ask him "do you get tired of telling me I was right? Because I certainly do not get tired of hearing it!" The reply is usually a dismissal of the obvious.

Okay then why are gas prices high in Canada? Is that Biden's fault as well? How about Europe. They are paying $2.55/litre (about $10/gallon) as of yesterday. Did Biden do that as well? I'm not saying your countries government has no effect on the system, but to blame the entire thing on the government is silly. Unless Biden suddenly has power over gas prices worldwide he's not mostly to blame.

instead trying blaming Saudi Arabia for capping production to drive costs up instead of produce more to drive costs down during a time when the world was already hurting from supply chain issues.. Taking Russia out of the equation isn't helping either, but you can't just allow dictators to willy nilly invade countries they have no business in but that's for another day.

But we pay very high taxes to have our healthcare provided for us. That having been said it is nice to be able to just walk into an ER if you are having an issue without worrying about a $5,000 bill coming in the mail.

Can't really speak to the illegal alien issue. We have immigrants that come to Canada but there is a strict process to follow in most cases.

Most people here are against what the truckers did. Are people allowed to protest in Canada? Absolutely and I'll back that right 100%. However what the truckers were doing in Ottawa crossed a great many lines. I have friends who live in Ottawa, and they were driving down streets in the middle of the night, disturbing folks sleep, blocking important roadways, etc. I think they would have been more successful if they would have just held a normal protest on parliament hill, not caused the ruckus they did, etc. A lot more people would have supported them. I do know a few people who supported them, but the vast majority did not.

Aren't you the guys that keep voting in politicians that promote trickle-down policies, thinking this time it'll work, only for it to kill a little bit more of the middle class while CEO salaries balloon ever higher?

Didn’t Biden & (crew Trudeau, UK) insult Saudi Arabia, Well it was Biden actually, after sanctioning Russia, after shutting down our oil/gas pipelines, then selling off our reserves to China?

That is the very definition of stupid.

Saudi Arabia and BRICS are laughing at this clown show.

I have an aunt and uncle who watch nothing but MSNBC.

Great people, would give you the shirt off their back, they just shake their head at me any time politics comes up.

Then they complain about food, gas, healthcare, etc.

lol

It's fun and sad to watch.
