They walked in behind me
late one Friday night;
A Mexican woman
and a child she held tight
I picked-up some beer
and walked up to pay
and felt myself humbled
from what she would say
Her English was weak
but I understood, still,
that her girl was sick
and she wanted a pill,
and that
she'd clean the store
in lieu of a bill
I could see she was sick
and needed much more
than what she could get
in that kind of store
but
the cashier was touched,
as touched as could be
and he gave some aspirin
and said it was free
As I walked outside
I looked all-around
but all I could see
by my car, on the ground
was a torn aspirin packet
and I drove-off,spellbound
