Vatican: 'Urgent Need' to Guide Artificial Intelligence

The Vatican says that there is an UGRENT NEED to guide the development of AI.
The Vatican wants a say in development. Not surprised at all.

The World Day of Peace was started in 1968. It is celebrated each year on January 1st, the solemnity of Mary, Mother of God. It is an occasion in which the Vatican sends a message of peace to all the foreign governments of the world. “Artificial Intelligence and Peace,” will be the official theme of the 2024 World Day of Peace.

I'm not sure how you can weave artificial intelligence and peace together.
Or I should say - weave artificial intelligence and the Vaticans version of peace together.
I'm sure they have their own ideas with all this.

The Vatican announced Tuesday that Pope Francis’ annual peace message for 2024 will focus on artificial intelligence (AI).

A statement from the Vatican’s Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development on Aug. 8 described an “urgent need” to guide the development and use of artificial intelligence in a responsible way, requiring that “ethical reflection be extended to the sphere of education and law.”

“Pope Francis calls for an open dialogue on the meaning of these new technologies, endowed with disruptive possibilities and ambivalent effects,” it said.

The Vatican office noted that artificial intelligence technologies are having “a rapidly increasing impact on human activity, personal and social life, politics and the economy” and called for vigilance to ensure that technological development contributes to “the promotion of justice and peace in the world.”

Years before the widely-popular release of the GPT-4 chatbot system, developed by the San Francisco start-up OpenAI, the Vatican was already heavily involved in the conversation of artificial intelligence ethics, hosting high-level discussions with scientists and tech executives on the ethics of artificial intelligence in 2016 and 2020.

The Pope is evil, not representative of past Popes. I'm not surprised he's pushing for a say in AI development. As far as that goes, I'm pretty sure I've seen videos of that sumbitch flickering as he started walking away from a window.

The question is; does anyone who will be using A.I. actually care about the Vatican's opinion. I wonder how much of the younger generations actually value the word of the Church.

What purpose does the Vatican serve anyway? The church of catholicism protected pedophiles. I'd think their "word" is pretty much useless now.

I'm not religious (agnostic), but there may be some truth in what you're saying.
The current pope is clearly a WEF agent, and the WEF is hellbend (no pun intended) on destroying everything that binds us together and anything beautiful and moral (think art, family , religions , marriage etc).
If we're broken and separated it will (in their eyes) be easier to control us

Considering around 85% of the people on Earth subscribe to, or choose to believe in some kind of form of organised religious practice, it canny be that brave a new world.

For the better or worse of the matter, our belief in a creator is not going away anytime soon by my guess.
