Many years ago; early 80's, I won a red vinyl import promo 45 from a radio station call in contest. The band was U.K. Squeeze the song featured was 'Take me i'm yours' on the a-side. And I swear the b-side was this mystery song and it was labeled as a (demo).

Yes back then it was known a the second British invasion of music, there where songs on the radio that was overplayed in just a few weeks or days and went away, there was one hit wonders galore, many in the early 80's. I used to drool after records back in the old record shops, they would have new or even stuff playing all the time. I remember 'Rock Lobster' by the B-52's bought that record just by what I heard and not on the radio, but by what the store was playing. 45 singles was a thing and was very popular and folk do collect them.

There was such an explosion of music in the early 80s, it was practically impossible to keep up.
A local music store often had 45s like you described. I had a couple with really good songs. The records were loaned out or lost somehow. I've never been able to find any info on the bands or songs. I think some of these mystery songs were made by well-known artists doing side projects.
