I worked around nukes and they are actually very safe in the sense of accidentally blowing up. The worst case is the casing is broken open and radiation leaks, but they can't just blow up.

My father had plans to build a bomb shelter. My mom freaked out when he pointed out there would only be room for immediate family, no neighbors, no BFFs. She said, well what if they try to come in the bomb shelter, my daddy said shoot em. Well, let me tell you, that was the END of any bomb shelter being built.

Next thing I know, he was digging a fairly substantial root cellar with illegal labor out back.

My sibs and I cleared dozens and dozens of home canned peaches out of that bomb shelter after parents passed away.
