Huge crater collapse - Lava flash flood in Iceland

Iceland's baby volcano had an accident yesterday and spilled its contents all over the floor , Ahhh , bless.

At 04.12 in the evening, the crater collapsed towards the back, and sent all the lava flooding down into the "back" of the crater.

I only missed the first 3-4 seconds of the collapse.

Oooo sparkly.

As far as I'm aware it's not time-lapse but as it happened drone footage , I think the speed is due to the crater wall collapse, it was captured by the chap who's YouTube channel it's posted on , wish I had of seen it in person though.

A video has been posted taken in daylight after the crater collapse.

This is real-time. The lava flows really that fast, up to 70 km/h (~ 45mph) in the lava channels.

I was just walking around a crater yesterday as well!!!!

I'm doing a circle around the country, so won't be able to provide any updates though, sorry. I just checked the maps, and it won't be on my journey.

Some lava flows faster and some flows really slowly. I think it depends on its composition and temperature, but I'm no expert.

Damn, that's so mesmerizing to watch.

watch this live drone footage right above the volcano. So much 'tourism' there, people putting themself in danger by going to the foot of the volcano, a place even search and rescue won't go! (as was said on the live)

Footage that captured the build up to and collapse of the crater wall , from a closer angle it also shows the speed of the escaping lava.
