I don’t know where we went wrong as a society that it seems nobody knows how to use those words anymore.

There, as in over here, over THERE (a place, a thing, not a person!)
They’re as in they-are. They’re about to learn grammar. They are doing something. This one is really hard for people to grasp. They’re really confused when it comes to use of this little word. When in doubt people should just break it up. They are really confused. They are silly.
Their, as in ownership. She got into their Tesla. Their internet was down so they couldn’t read ATS.

I’m not picking on anyone in particular, but I’ve seen it numerous times on here. I’m not saying that my grammar is perfect without flaws and this isn’t what this post is about or being a grammar nazi.

This post is about across ALL social media I see those simple three words used incorrectly more than any other language mistake. I mean constantly used incorrectly. It’s to the point when I do see people using it correctly I am shocked. It’s not a certain group of people either. I’ve seen it at high levels of a corporation, I’ve seen blue collar folks being confused. What is it about those three words??? Here’s the weird thing, I was mostly educated in Europe. Were we taught differently (still taught by Americans)? My circle of friends that were taught over there don’t have this problem. It must be an American school thing.

OR… is there a conspiracy behind this? I noticed that sometimes those words get autocorrected into the wrong use. It got me wondering is AI or other type of fake commentary are being used a lot more than we realize? I’ve wondered in the past if they purposely added mistakes to make things seem more human….if they did this would be one so common.

I know what you mean and I totally agree with you. I have seen to, too, and two get mixed up. They all get confused by the user and the reader. I was brought up how to use proper grammar. I have seen this allot since I started using texting and chat. It makes me wonder who educated these people.

Setting aside the fact that everyone makes grammatical errors occasionally, those aren't the only words that get butchered at present.

You're and your
To and too
Lose and loose
Whose and who's
...and so on.

This is what happens when schools lower passing grades and are more interested in indoctrination than education.

Effect and affect are seldom used in the correct context, and that's not on autocorrect.

Whenever my daughter sends a message pertaining to my granddaughter autocorrect always changes it from Mackenzie to Matthew. I call her Matthew now....because I can.

Lose and loose really annoys me for some reason. I know everyone doesn't do this, but as I read things I do hear the persons voice (or my perceived voice of them) and sometimes people sound really ignorant...

Right, it's all the parents fault...not that kids are bombarded daily with ideology rather than academic studies by political morons who think education is worthless if it isn't steeped in politically correct ideals and idiosyncrasies. We don't need no stinkin parents, your kids belong to us.

Basic grammar should be taught by schools and reinforced at home. Apparently neither is happening. Even worse yet, society seem ok with it.

Lordy...my niece said the other day at a funeral...." At least she's at EASE at last". Peace. Not ease.

Slightly similar level of "duh"... Other niece (30-ish) cannot read a clock to tell time. Only digital...and cannot write nor read cursive either.

Language confusion abounds. Short words, triple meaning, triple spelling of same sounding words...omitting words to shortcut conversion?

It be like dat now.

I can agree with this statement up to a point. My parents taught AND reinforced what I learned in school. My step granddaughter has that same benefit from her parents, and she is flourishing thankfully. As you know, I live in a small town. Parents get involved here, but in the big city where I grew up, what you and Olaru are saying has more validity. Even so, as we have seen in the news, parents do get involved there as well. Just not to the extent they probably should be.

I'm sorry, but at my funeral I want a hoarde of youngins to say i'm at EASE. That is freaking hilarious.
That is exactly how I want to be in the afterlife. Perhaps the person that died also liked it.

I used to work for this lady we called Mama Bear (her last name was actually Bear) Let me paint the picture.
Mama Bear was a Southern woman from the old south. (The South that isn’t PC to talk about) She was very heavy, had a head of blazing red hair, she had breast cancer and was missing a breast and never cared to replace it, so she had one large boob, you get the picture.
She would say ThhhhhAIR, and Lookie here. It was almost like hearing a cartoon from the 40’s hearing her talk.

Sorry but what you wrote just brought back a flood of memories. I really loved working for her. She didn’t put up with anybody’s bullcrap.

I think cursive is really no longer needed. I haven't used it since grade school. Everything can be typed and unless your cursive has neat hand writing; it's a pain to read. It was a useful skill back when everything was hand-written. Now, it's really only useful for artistic purposes.

If anything, math and science are the main issues in u.s. education. Parents should be able to teach their kids how to read / write if they are struggeling.

Ha, I guess you're right. I forgot about signatures
. But beyond signing a name, it's kinda useless.
