CA has had elections rigged for a while now, and it's getting worse.

Kamala defeated another liberal minority woman to take Barbara Boxers seat. The was NO GOP or third parties on the ballot and you can't do a write in.

By rigged you mean an open primary where all candidates from all parties are on the ballot, and only the top two vote-getting candidates go on to the general election ballot. FTR, this doesn't apply to the presidential candidate or local offices. If a Republican isn't one of the two highest vote-getters in the primary, then no, there will be no Republican on the ballot in the general election. Evidently in the US Senatorial election involving Kamala Harris, the best Republican candidate couldn't beat out the second-highest polling Democratic candidate. In that primary Harris garnered over twice as many votes as the runner up, Loretta Sanchez, and the next highest vote getter, a Republican, Duf Sundheim, garnered less than half as many votes as Sanchez.

California Primary Results

Perhaps by rigged you mean a state that overwhelmingly votes Democrat, which is the case for California. In this way one could also say that elections are rigged in most red states, but there the Republican wins. California turned full-on blue after proposition 187, which would've banned health care, education and other services, including fire and paramedic services to undocumented immigrants. This proposition, which was supported by the California Republican Party, broke GOP power in the state.

As to the topic of this thread, I don't understand the thinking of the Democrats on this committee either. It certainly isn't a good look. The answer given by one Democratic lawmaker was not in any way satisfactory, and indeed this safety committee seems to have a bad record on bills it supports and resists.

I live in CA. Do not tell me that the change in election law for all state races was well known.

It wasn't until Boxer's seat.

There was never a proposal to deny fire and emergency services to ANYONE. How would first responders even know the status of who they were responding to.

Just stop

It sure as hell doesn't stop them from passing insane gun laws, over and over again...

IMHO child trafficking should be a capital felony. They should stipulate that if you are convicted of child trafficking and after all appeals are done, the mode of execution should be a bullet to the back of the head.

Next step, vigilante justice. It's bound to happen when the laws cease to protect the people and instead protect the criminals.

Seriously though, if anything happens to my children and I find who did it, they will wish they had a bullet to the back of the head. Because I will not let them go quickly.

So can we say that democrats are in favor of child sex trafficking now?

Because I'll just bookmark this thread for future reference.

Thanks,

They elected a pedophile. It's becoming more clear who/what Democrats are. They are pedophile sympathizers. Call it exactly what it is.

MOST IMPORTANTLY...California residents who have families, and are concerned about all the debauchery, illegal aliens, sky-high costs, and other threats to quality-of-life, FIND A WAY TO MOVE OUT.

I lived in CA at the time and for another 20 or so years. I distinctly remember fire and emergency services being one of the prominent issues regarding the bill; however, reading about the bill now, I see no mention of such things. And emergency medical treatment would also be given. So I stand corrected there. Perhaps it was some scare tactic rhetoric by the opposition that mentioned the emergency services being denied, which I remember.

As for the open primary system there, it went into effect Jan. 1, 2011. I moved away in early 2007, but heard about it living in another west coast state. I can't imagine any Californian who paid attention to the local news wouldn't have heard about it, and certainly they would've read about it in the California's voter's pamphlet. No doubt the LA Times and Sacramento Bee would've reported the change as well. And if a person was watching the general election returns, I would imagine this would've been discussed while explaining why two Democrats and no Republicans were on the ballot for US Senate in 2016. Certainly the Republican Party knew about it and could've put pressure on their lower polling Senate candidates to bow out of the race, in order to get their top candidate into the general election, if it were at all feasible.

There are people here today that do not understand how the open primary worked to insure that only two democrats end up running in all the state races.

And clearly you have demonstrated your ability to swallow the opposition propaganda hook line and sinker without any mental analysis. You claimed here that republicans were trying to deny fire and emergency services to illegals. No thought at all about is this true, is this even workable.

Caught you!

Oh, you caught me. Did you notice that I admitted I was wrong after reading up on the bill? Something I never see from conservatives and Trump cultists here. As for your claim that I have demonstrated my ability to swallow the opposition (or leftist/progressive in this case) propaganda, this occurred 29 years ago, when I was much younger, and most of my thought processes went into other matters. I like to think I've wizened up and become much more of a critical thinker and viewer of news media in the latter half of my life.

As for how the voting law works, it isn't to ensure that two Democrats will be the only two choices for an office in the general election, but that the two highest vote getters in the primary will face off in the general election. I can conceive of a scenario in which only two competent and popular Republicans ran for an office while there were a bunch of Democratic candidates who split the Dem vote, causing one or both Republicans to make it to the general election ballot.

Now that you are an adult, your critical thinking doesn't seem any better.

Do you think conservatives ever get sick of being LIED about constantly.....like you did with this ridiculous notion that immigration status would determine if the fire or police respond. So many really stupid lies like this are constantly being told, and repeated until it becomes 'common knowledge' that republicans and conservatives are EVIL people, you continue to behave that way without even thinking.

Yes, I caught you LYING in a really ugly way about your fellow citizens.

Hopefully, next time, even as an adult, you will check your facts first.

Oh, says you who seems to believe whatever you choose to believe and ignore other evidence when it is presented to you.

As for your claiming I was lying about what the effects of Prop 187 were, that was a lie on your part. A lie is when a person intentionally does not tell the truth or dishonestly characterizes some matter. That is not what I did, and you should be aware of that fact. When you called me out on what I wrote about prop 187 from my recollection of the matter, I immediately looked it up, saw that I was wrong about some aspects of Prop 187 and then replied to you acknowledging this. At what point was I lying? Did I initially state some misinformation? Yes, guilty as charged. As I've already said, I looked up the matter, found that I was indeed wrong and corrected myself in this thread. Also, back when prop 187 was a thing, the internet wasn't so much of a thing, and hence it wasn't as easy to check information as it is these days.

Yet your accusing me of intentionally spreading lies, and claiming that I am doing it in a real ugly way. Given all the misinformation right-wing conservatives and MAGA-types spread, I guess I can then just call them absolute liars, according to your standards. And you go on to insult me and say claim that I continue to behave in this way without any justification on your part. You do seem to be a hateful attacking person who will mischaracterize anything misspoken by another person, but never admit when you yourself are wrong about something. This occurred multiple times in the threads about Trump's indictments, in which you challenged what I and others provided evidence of, but you never acknowledged this evidence.

It also happened in the thread about the demonstration at the N. Hollywood school. You claimed something was said that wasn't, I pointed it out, and you said it did too, when in fact it was otherwise. You could argue that the matter was up to interpretation, but the way you first put it was definitely not the case.

As for which side of the political divide here at ATS likes to accuse their political opponents of being evil people, that would be the radical conservatives and MAGA-types.

Also according to your definition of lying, you started out lying in this thread by claiming that the elections were rigged in California, because they don't allow Republicans on the general ballot for state races. I explained why this wasn't the case, and a scenario whereby a Republican could make it to the GE ballot. You, a long-time resident of California evidently weren't aware of your state's current electoral law, which has been in place for 12 years, and complained that all Californians hadn't been made aware of it. I pointed out that at this point it was the fault of the uninformed. You never even acknowledged that you misspoke on the matter, let alone apologize for it. Yet you accuse me of having lied in an ugly way. You're a complete hypocrite on such matters.
