In addition to computer chips, manufacturers use gallium and germanium for a vast array of devices including solar panels, lasers and night vision goggles, according to Bloomberg. China is the primary producer of these metals based on its portion of worldwide mining and exporters will require a license to export them, according to the announcement.

Another source says they have 90% of the worlds mineral supply of these metals.

1. This will destroy solar.
2. We need to break away from dependence on China.

I am all in on solar. I have a house off the grid in the Philippines. My boat was sail and solar powered except for docking with small Honda. My last two cars hybrids. But right now we are not ready.

The wrong people have control of the materials and production. If we want to go electric it’s going to take nuclear.

Right now China is not our friend, and the current government push is the wrong way to go. It needs to come from people like me and maybe you, buying solar because we want to. Not being shaved down our throats and destroying our economy in an unsustainable method.

Chernobyl, Fukushima and now threats of another melt down in Ukraine because mankind are war-mongering idiots.

We're far from ready for solar and will probably never be evolved enough for nuclear.

A expected response China sees it's chance to close the gap they can get there energy from Russia have plenty of manufacturing capabilities it won't take them long to adjust and move forward from any action the west takes against them economically

On the other hand everything China cuts the west off from will take us 10+ years to be back to 100%

I'm only surprised they didn't do that earlier. They have a tone of resources, some of which are only found in China, and now they are powerful enough or so they seem to think to restrict its exports. Logically, why would they export they raw resources cheaply if they can export expensive ready products? It's like Ethiopia's coffee, they would be rich if we were willing to buy ready products from them, but for now, they have to sell to manufacturers who make enormous profits on their labour. Tough life. Any other country would do the same thing. I'm not happy about it, but can totally understand it.

Elections have consequences.

The current administration is soft and weak when dealing with China.

Trump was making it more expensive for China to do business in the US.

Coincidently, not 2 months after Trump signed and dealt a major blow to China's previous policy, we got Covid.

Set few people ever seem to link those facts. A very unlikely coincidence.

As someone who has actually lived in and dealt with China, Chinese policies, they don't have the same level of care or concern for their populace as the west has.

Fair enough, but you can't prove they didn't either.

Only a reaction from this whole anti-china policy, sanctions only does bad things, so expect them in return, but don't complain then.
