Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, forget the empowering women and diversity ratio all movies must now have. With the flop of The Flash is Indy's final foray the last hope for a summer blockbuster.

The easiest question is, was this a 300-million-dollar budget film good or not, from the cinematography, the CGI, the ridiculous psychics, and the overall believability of the action sequences, it was extremely subpar for even 2/3rds the budget and that's being mild.

As for PWB, I wanted everybody to be wrong but FWIW 30 minutes to an hour after viewing can't remember one memorable line and, much like with an 80-year-old HF just stop with her overt action scenes THEY just can't pull it off, and make it even semi-realistic. Not sure if Ford could watch the film for 2 1/2 hours much less do all the action sequences.

Too many overused tired tropes, old man retired depressed, dead son Vietnam, divorced, spunky know it all young person, chase on a train, chase in a vehicle

DOD fits better with KOTCS than any of the first three. Overall DOD is Mutt swinging on vines like a monkey chasing a car awful.

adjusted for 2023 Inflation KOTCS 185 million cost is similar to DOD further more

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny through Friday
opening box office 4,600 theaters $5,217 average $24,000,000

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls
through Friday's opening box office 4,260 theaters $7,176 average $55,612,347

So KOTCS is over double the gross of DOD while being in 340 fewer theaters, when all is said and done DOD might make KOTCS seem way better than it actually was

I haven't heard much good about it. As I recall, the first and third movies were entertaining.

Cheers

Another predictable flop for Kathleen Kennedy and Lucasfilm , Hollywood's Woke crusade stumbles on to its eventual demise as audiences turn their backs on "Strong Wamon" syndrome and studios haemorrhage cash with flop after flop. Her attack on Indiana Jones is an attack on movie history and for that there will be no forgiveness , Hollywood needs to give itself an enema if it wants to avoid collapse.

Thanks for taking the bullet putnam so we don't have to , Harrison Ford should feel ashamed of himself for his role in defacing Indiana Jones's legacy.

I can mostly take cinema or leave it but this was a franchise I enjoyed, my kids enjoyed it, we got the video games, and got excited to see the sequels

I watched Raiders of the Lost Ark, just to get the bad taste out of my mouth, afterwards.

Karen Allen's Marion was always a strong female character all the while actually acting realistically to the scene and the time period.

2 scenes epitomize where they divulge, in Raiders after the fight with the huge Nazi, Indy, and Marion run away from the plane as it is about to explode. Obviously, they both are stunt people but by that time the director had made it where you believed they both could legitimately run. We never get that illusion with Ms. Waller Bridge, all we get is her awkward movements and running posture akin to a baby giraffe, and none of the bumbling men can catch her. FWIW that was not on her so much as the director didn't have the skills to create a realistic illusion. The same thing with the fight sequences, Marion's punch looked real, but PWB did not, it wasn't even close.

The thing is they could have portrayed the actual characters' abilities better if it was more cerebral and investigation detective work that both PWB and Ford could actually do.

Notice the number of all-time bombs which have been within the last 10 years. That's not sustainable and eventually one will bust a major studio.

I appreciate the synopsis. I had to struggle with the fabrication of the “Dial of Destiny “ being “the thing Indy had searched for his whole life,” especially given he never brought it up etc…

I have also had a problem with the active and heroic Indy they were trying to pull off, as HF has more of a “shuffler’s “ demeanor and less of a jaw punching swashbuckler.🤷🏼‍♂️

I could go into the minutiae, it could have easily been so much more realistic and entertaining, 4 movies and nary a mention of his friend Basil, for example

but I suppose I'm not the demographic anymore.

I'm not going to see it. I've been turned off by the women beating up men syndrome for years now.

I'm not interested in unrealistic. I'm not interested in butch. There's nothing appealing about putting down men. It's just become fashionable.

Indiana Jones and "Star Wars" are dead to me. As someone pointed out, the only other franchise left to wreck is John Wick. That would be depressing.

I look around me when I'm in public. My fellow women are tattooed up and over-pierced. They dress like slobs. They've become deliberately unattractive. I see them protesting with their vulgar mouths and vulgar behavior.

No wonder no one is getting married. Who wants to tie themselves to that?

I'm glad I'm old. I can't bear what's happened to this country. What we've become is criminal.

Actually box office ticket sales don't matter when you take into consideration global streaming revenues where the money keeps rolling in long after the theater run is finished.
I have worked on terrible movies, years ago, that never should have been made and I still get residual checks from them monthly. Money made from streaming is astonishing. I'm producing/directing a T&A, hard R, film I hope will get picked up by a streaming service that offers that genera. It's to raunchy for the theater. Here's a little teaser....think female MMA and BareKnuckle chicks save the planet.

Thanks for the critique! I won't pay to watch it at the theater. "Asteroid city" is another matter....

www.boxofficemojo.com...

Well aware that movies make revenue beyond the box office, the point is I've heard anywhere from 275 million to 332 million expenditure on DOD. Iger is expecting one billion dollars when all is said and done, you wanna bet it hits a billion??

For perspective, Top Gun Maverick top grossing movie in 2022 is at 1.4 billion total with a domestic opening weekend of $126,707,459 if I'm reading the new numbers correctly DOD is at 60 million approximately, that's a lot of catching up to do if it was over 300 million to make they won't be happy with 750 million...

for more perspective

the Eternals opening weekend was $71,297,219

That’s it!
#IndianaJones set for a sad farewell as #IndianaJonesAndTheDialOfDestiny bottomed industry’s projections with disastrous 60M 3-day opening weekend at US #BoxOffice,half of #CrystalSkull’s 125.2M THU-SUN 2008 opening (and #DialOfDestiny costs almost 40% more)

Even so it's going to be a long slog to recoup the estimated $900 million it needs to break even , I think Disney need quick prophets given they lost over $120 Billion in 2022 and look set to perhaps beat that this year.

As someone who largely gave up on movies a decade or so ago I admit I'm enjoying watching these chickens come home to roost , let the corporations burn.

That's fine...

I usually work on smaller, indy projects, wanting to tap into this market. So far, so good...3 greenlights in 23.

I realize the market fluctuates but I see the entertainment industry growing with kids even watching garbage on their mobile phones. Someone is producing it and raking in the $$$. I'm guilty of plucking the low hanging fruit.

Escapism is a hot commodity with the world in it's current clusterfuxs I don't see it ending anytime soon.

Make sure you let us know when your stuff comes out, it's obvious the big studios are broken.

I think Primer was an excellent low budget indy film, LOL think somebody on here suggested it

I'm definitely out of the prime demographics, and that's OK. But I understand there are a lot of us.

I think the last movie I saw and really liked was No Country for Old Men. I've grown picky AF, and my attention span is for chit lately. Dune was OK Matrix Resurrections blah,in 2019 I did enjoy Dr Sleep, Ford v. Ferrari, and Bohemian Rhapsody but out of the top 200 grossing movies every year, rarely do I really enjoy 3-4.

2018 was the last year I even

I got Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Xfinity and for every new RELEASE I watch, I'll watch 5 older ones if I watch a movie at all

The newer ones just all seem like #, I did watch Nope, and it was okay but it wasn't memorable. Most times I'll watch something if my daughters recommend it, cause they know what I do like and enjoy. Im so over superhero movies, it's not even funny, and I used to love them, but now they have to be really well done. GOTG3 meh...

I find it interesting that everyone here is afraid of a strong woman. Sad, really. Also a bit controlling... I guess only white men are allowed to be main characters, huh?

Aww bless, you don't understand do you?
I don't want to be accused of 'mansplaining', so I'll go gently.
A strong, powerful woman is a good thing and can be a good character if done correctly. Marion is a good example.
Rey is not a good example. If the only way you can make your female character strong is by making the male franchise hero character weak, there may well be an agenda of sorts going on. Especially if a former assistant to Stephen Spielberg is involved.
Maybe you should stick with Hard Candy or some such thing.

I heard it sucks and they're tearing that Phoebe Waller Bridge( I had no idea who she was and she looks to be terribly miscast) to pieces. Seriously, Harrison Ford has become a total douche selling out and letting them destroy his iconic characters for some $$$ and thumbing his nose at the fans. Disney is a crap factory.

It seems to me the main audience for Indy Jones is an older crowd now and mostly 40 and up guys. I remember watching Raiders of the Lost Ark with my parents when I was a kid, my dad thought it was okay, and my mom liked Harrison Ford in it, but that's about it. They were fun movies to distract you on a summer night. Nothing ground-breaking (aside from the violence, Temple of Doom is what got the PG-13 rating started, it was way too gory for a PG rating and they didn't want to give it an R rating).

They were fun movies and there are newer movies in the same style that are fun as well, the National Treasure movies come to mind. And also the most recent Tomb Raider. In any case I have enjoyed all of them.

I have no inclination to see this movie and my wife and I are really wanting to go to the theater to watch something. But nothing seems to be showing. I hope the new Mission Impossible movie is good. Was rooting for the Indiana Jones movie but after listening to all the reviews saying it is at best boring, and many just ripping it to shreds, and seeing it's a 2 1/2 hour movie, we probably won't be going to see it. But we still might. And we got Mission Impossible in a couple weeks. Usually can't go wrong with Tom Cruise. Although some of the MI movies in the past were pretty stupid, the last couple have been good.

kathleeen kennnedy's bossees are NOT dizney.
her bossses are blakrok aka r0thshcils, s0r0s, shiffs, warberggs, etc.

they are running these franchises into the ground, by pushing agennda in them.
they are commmercials for c0mmunism.

this week you had sam jakson crying about being a blak man millllionaire in 'this c0untry'

blakrok does not care about spiderman, luke skyywalker, or indianna jones.
they care about implementing dyst0pian t0talitariansm.

the original ending of the movie, which they reshot, was indiana jones being replaced by fleabag.
people online, (i even complained via twittter) forced dizney to reshoot the ending.

but thats what they want.

you cannot have a strong whiiite man hero in todays day.
thats racccist.

you can only have dyst0pian 'brown' heroes
or you can have feminist women or 'people who iddentify as women' heroes

i gave up on dizney years ago. its too c0mmunistic.

they made a cartoon teaching kids to h8te ammerica.
f0kk em.
