Why are they bothering when burning down all the trees in Canada and the US is cheaper? Plus they can salt the earth via the ash and rain, blame it on humanity, cull the population and laugh at the rest of humanity from their hermetically sealed underground bunkers.

Solar weather is a large contributor to Earths weather. Not much we can do a out that. I know that science isn't held in high regard on ATS anymore, but....

From your second link:

This may cause some warming in the thermosphere, however, carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxide, coolants in the thermosphere, absorb the energy and then re-radiate heat back into space. A small fraction of the extra heat from the solar flare radiates to layers of the atmosphere below the thermosphere, but it is insignificant compared to the normal amount of heating the lower layers of the atmosphere already experience from normal solar radiation.

See that part with bold (added by me) text? The influence of the increase of temperature in the thermosphere is insignificant when compared to the energy from normal solar radiation, so I don't think solar storms can increase noticeably the temperature of the lowest part of the atmosphere or the oceans.

Report released yesterday by the White House-which states that they are open to the idea of...can you guess?
Blocking out the sun to fix climate change.

Funny this comes just after the EU have begun to discuss the matter.

For anyone interested in it, here's the final document, in which they say:

In the context of accelerated global warming, deliberate large-scale intervention in the Earth’s natural systems (referred to as “geoengineering”), such as solar radiation modification, is attracting more attention. However, the risks, impacts and unintended consequences that these technologies pose are poorly understood, and necessary rules, procedures and institutions have not been developed62. These technologies introduce new risks to people and ecosystems, while they could also increase power imbalances between nations, spark conflicts and raises a myriad of ethical, legal, governance and political issues. Guided by the precautionary principle, the EU will support international efforts to assess comprehensively the risks and uncertainties of climate interventions, including solar radiation modification and promote discussions on a potential international framework for its governance, including research related aspects.

Banning carbonated drinks would be a very good start.

there is no reason to carbonate drinks as it serves no real perpose.

this is what I was worried about.

Nothing good can come from this. Nature corrects, we destroy.

Apparently, so is the EU, and that's why they want to discuss the dangers of those techniques.

how far has it gone already? Small tests done?

I just don't trust them. If we are hearing about it, there is a good chance there is money to be made based on a knee jerk reaction. I'm jaded a bit. I think they are selling a product and the wrapper doesn't match what's in the box. I just think people need to keep a close eye on this. It has potential to be a gargantuan "hold by beer" moment.

It depends on who the "them" is referring to.

From what I have seen in all these years, the EU likes to discuss things for a long time before making a decision, as they are obliged by EU rules.

Non-EU countries are not under those obligations so they can decide on their own according to their own rules (or lack of rules).

EU bad decisions take as much time as good decisions.
