The Sands of Time

On the horizon
A great wheel turns
Measuring the moments
As the constellations run
Measuring the moments
Every day of the great year
Just before the rising sun
The dogstar greets the dawn

Beneath the oceans
Cities fast asleep
Sunk in devotion
To a world they couldn't keep
Lines in the desert
Pyramids in the sand
Ziggurats on mountaintops
Stone circles on the land

Measuring the heavens
Capturing a grand design
From Ephesus to Elusis
And the cities of the Nile
From the ruins of ancient Tanis
On a distant old shoreline
With her golden masks of kingship
Buried in the sands of time
