Yes, it's real for those who have fallen for the whitewashing. The US govt certainly knows this, some would say they have made good use of it. At least their funding has certainly extended to groups that, until recently, were openly acknowledged in western media as extremists and neo Nazis. I think we can dispense with the the neo part, they're just plain old Nazis. The west is still arming and funding them. The Ukraine isn't that fledgling model liberal democracy that people seem to believe. It is a highly corrupt country full of extremism that (because of this) the US easily manipulated into a proxy war that will destroy the place.

A small sample of pre '22 media coverage.

Congress Has Removed a Ban on Funding Neo-Nazis From Its Year-End Spending Bill

Under pressure from the Pentagon, Congress has stripped the spending bill of an amendment that prevented funds from falling into the hands of Ukrainian neo-fascist groups.

CHOOSING FRIENDS AND ENEMIES IN UKRAINE IS NO STRAIGHTFORWARD TASK

Originally funded by private donors, Azov drew into its ranks a large number of foreign volunteers, eager to fight for their fascist, anti-Semitic beliefs. It was when the international media reported Azov Battalion soldiers sporting swastikas on their helmets that alarm bells started going off.

Yes, the Azov Battalion is by far the most effective and motivated unit the Ukraine government had in the first assault against the rebels. However, with a bankrupt treasury and a desperate need for international aid and military support, neo-Nazis are not exactly something you’d want to showcase. To downplay the reports, the allegations were dismissed as “Russian propaganda.”

The case against the Azov Battalion was compelling enough for the U.S. Congress to exclude them from military aid. Canada, of course, has also sent military trainers to western Ukraine. But, as of yet, the Harper government has not taken any measures to prevent our soldiers from training either Azov or other neo-Nazi militiamen.

When asked for a clarification vis-à-vis the possibility of our troops assisting right-wing extremists, the defence minister’s office stated that the Canadians would only be training the Ukrainian National Guard. Unfortunately for all involved, as of September 2014, the Azov Battalion officially became a member of that National Guard.

Washington Quietly Increases Lethal Weapons to Ukraine

But Ukraine also is hardly a model of Western‐style democracy. Not only is it afflicted with extensive graft and corruption, but some extreme nationalist and even neo‐Nazi groups play a significant role in the “new” Ukraine. The notoriously fascist Azov Battalion, for example, continues to occupy a prominent position in Kiev’s efforts to defeat separatists in Ukraine’s eastern Donbass region...

Other ultranationalist factions act as domestic militias that attempt to intimidate more moderate Ukrainians. Even the Poroshenko government itself has adopted troubling censorship measures and other autocratic policies. Officials in both the Obama and Trump administration have taken a much too casual attitude toward U.S. cooperation with extremist elements and a deeply flawed Ukrainian government.

Congress members call out Ukraine government for glorifying Nazis

The letter states that “It’s particularly troubling that much of the Nazi glorification in Ukraine is government-supported.” It noted ceremonies, gestures and legislation venerating leaders of the UPA and OUN militias, who fought alongside Nazi Germany during World War II and whose troops participated in atrocities against Jews and other victims.

By the way, that "Russian Volunteer Corps" group of so called Russian patriots conducting raids and terrorising civilians in Russian villages recently, are a group of far right extremists headed By a proud Nazi. Not only is he banished from Russia, he is banned from most of Europe.

Anti-Kremlin Group Involved in Border Raid Is Led by a Neo-Nazi
The leader of the Russian Volunteer Corps, one of the two insurgent groups responsible for an armed incursion into Russia this week, is a far-right extremist, German officials and humanitarian groups say.

www.nytimes.com...

He bemoans the media whitewashing himself, as a proud Nazi he just wishes they would be honest and start celebrating extreme right wing fascism and even issues a warning about it below. Quite illuminating.

"It’s funny to observe how liberal trash, grant-eaters, faggots, and warriors for perverts’ rights are pretending that those who oppose the Russian army aren’t those same “neonazis, homophobes and fascists,” that they were hating, were scared of, and were “canceling.” . . . Before February 24 you were corrupting the Ukrainian society with the LGBT-perversion propaganda, were calling on the government to put us in prisons and to ban any nationalist formations, but now you are knitting socks for the Ukrainian army, taking photos with the rifles at the checkpoints, and liking the photos. You think you’ll get points? You think we forgot your bullying?"

Independant journalist Richard Medhurst explains the massive hypocrisy quite well.

I can already hear the incoming whataboutism's, and straw man arguments to this thread from the ravenous pro-Ukraine crowd...

I feel the more they suspect they have been deceived into supporting the very people they claim to hate the more denial and blind resistance we all will face.

Good luck with the thread. Hopefully they don't get it shut down or deleted because you have provided a great example of the MSM manufacturing consent for war.

You guys need a history lesson. The black sun has been used in Ukraine region for a long time, before the Nazis. Also, Ukrainians did end up fighting with the SS, but in their own battalions, not because they supported their agenda, but because they wanted to fight against the communist regime that had tried to starve them all to death. The nazis were very wary of them, because they knew the temporary friendship wasn't going to last.

And a couple dudes with swastikas doesn't mean #. We have neonazis fighting in the marine corps, does that mean the marines are nazis?

Please ats people, be smarter than this. You are embarrassing if you fall for this garbage

Ask the polish about Ukrainian Nazi SS Stephan Bandera.

They despise him for a reason.

Which Pro Zelensky’s/Ukrainian nationalists celebrate nationally there every year. As some “hero”

At the very least, you’ll get in any research of him as being “protected by the Nazi SS”

I agree but let's face it, in today's world even the good guys have major issues and outright flaws. I don't agree with America's financial commitment to Ukraine either. Mostly because even now it doesn't seem winnable, unless Russia capitulates which is doubtful it will be nothing but a continued long-drawn-out bloody mess, with unending aid to Ukraine and the rest of NATO. That is likely the best-case scenario at this point.

But like a lot of things at some point when your government is committed as it seems to be, you have to support which way gets us out of the conflict quickly and with the lowest numbers of casualties. Ukraine could be 10% Nazis the 90% left as corrupt as they may be, but still isn't America's largest risk in the region still Russia?

A big fat rationalization no doubt because now it's a fooking mess, but it's easier to select the lesser of nothing but MIC/Political evils that are involved in the fooking mess, which is still America/NATO with all of its flaws and failures. It's better than the alternative, isn't it?

side note in your avatar you look just like Joe Teta? sp from Dual Survival.

Unfortunately you may well be right. It's a shame such a poisonous ideology that is really just based on hatred and racism persists. Though I don't think all of the blame for its persistence or growth will lay with Russia.

The US has protected, harboured and collaborated with Nazis ever since WW2. Especially in this region, for intelligence gathering and efforts at destabilising the Soviets. Various Nazi groups regained strength in the region after the collapse of the Soviet Union. The US funded and worked with them in the Orange revolution ('04) again in the Maidan uprising and ever since.

They (US) are no stranger to Nazism. Unfortunately a lot of people don't look back past Feb. '22 when history in this region began apparently.

I should add that the American people generally are not included in that ^. For them they will be (rightly) proud of the generation that fought against European fascism. Certain sections of their Govt (and corporate interests) not so much. Unfortunately Americans don't seem to have a great interest generally in what their Govt does outside of their borders.

The LOL is going to be on you. Just yesterday, there was a report on how the Western media routinely needs to tell Ukrainian soldiers to cover up the swastikas they're constantly adding to their uniforms.

Russia harbors more Neo-Nazies than any other country by far. That movement throughout the EU has been more of an anti-social/anti-establishment level event going back to Punk Rock days with skinheads. They are more of a gang faction than anything else like so many gangs are.

The Wanger group is heavy on the Nazi side of things and you all have no issues it seems with Putin having his own private Nazi army, why is that? To say there are Nazis in Ukraine is a no-sh!t statement since they are basically Russian too, but EU is also full of Nazi groups at some pretty surprising levels.

My first post goes back to Russia's propaganda that they invaded to clean up Nazies which was a totally BS reason made up on the spot and many of you are still riding that bandwagon like it's true.
