Hello. I wish to join because I have been a lurker on this forum for a while. I find the discussions respectful and I have a keen interest in the subject matter.

Welcome to ATS!

There is lots of information and discussion here on many topics.

Take some time to look around and familiarize yourself with all of the boards including ATS for alternative and conspiracy related discussion; BTS for lighter subjects and chit chat; PTS for political discussion; and our very own news portal ATSNN.

Each board has several forums with it’s own assigned moderators. Whether your just reading or want to jump right in, we only ask that you follow the site's terms and conditions.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I'm not quite as robotic in real life as my introduction makes me sound...

I wanted to join for a while, but was just busy and kept forgetting. I was reading the thread about China and Taiwan and wanted to post, so I finally joined.

This is definitely a forum with some extremely creative and intelligent people. I hope that I can contribute some insight.


A little about me:

Croatian-Canadian, socially liberal, fiscally moderate, agnostic. Currently a 4th year undergrad (Environmental Science)..

Hajduk means "bandit" or "outlaw" in Croatian (sounds like; "Hey Duke").

Ya, I would imagine that "Hejduk" in Slovak is the same word as Hajduk in Croatian. Culturally very similar, and at the time that word originated, I think there was a lot of overlap. Many Croatians moved into Moravia and Bohemia (modern day Slovakia and Czech Republic) when the Turks were raiding Bosnia and Croatia. It's still evident today in the Slovak language and many of the family and place names.

The "Hajduk" specifically were raiders, not unlike "Robinhood" who during the 1400s and 1500s used to ambush Turk merchants and colonizers of the area. Today it is the name of a very popular football team in Split.

Sorry to bore you.. I'm a big history buff.
