Good numbers are hard to get, but it is my understanding from reading and talking to locals here from Mexico, both legal and illegal, that while the numbers from other countries have certainly increased, all of them said Mexicans far outnumbered the others who crossed with them. Could be they were from areas that aren't doing as well as the area you live.

I'm not going to excuse the Senators remarks. They were harsh, but America has spent nearly $600 million dollars south of the border since around 2018. Add to that the lack of interest by the Mexican government in working with the U.S. to hit the cartels where it hurts the most, and I understand why he's upset about it. Some folks are vested in the flow of money those cartels bring into the country.

As to "curbing the demand", Prohibition in the 20's and early 30's proved that does not work. You have to go to the source, which in this case is the cartels.

Powerful people on BOTH sides of the borders profit in some way from the traffic.

As to "curbing the demand," the problem goes so much deeper than just making it hard for people to get hold of. There is a soul sickness that has infected US society. Try a youtube search on drugs and homelessness in Philadelphia. Do the same for San Francisco, Los Angeles, Portland, Chicago, New Orleans.

There is something much deeper than people just wanting to get off, but the issues are so deep, so rotten, and so embraced by the culture at large that actually dealing with the root causes is just not something they will try to ever do.

But, hey, let's make a boogey man out of Mexico and ignore the rot in the soul of our own nation. Maybe that'll take care of the problem!

I'm seriously curious why you say that. I know that the percent of them here is increasing, but you say a candidate has to have their support to win now? I thought that went to the blacks as far as votes.

I think we've found some points we can somewhat agree on.

Interesting video. I live in the NW area. There's a reason for sparse population there. It's hot, dry desert. Much of it is not hospitable to human habitation,.

In the south, as well (I used to live in that region), much of it is rugged sub-tropical mountains that are not hospitable, not easy to get to.

If you look at US population distribution, you see that there also vast swaths of land in the US that have very low density, while others are heavily populated. So, there's really nothing anomalous about it.
As the video says, there are logical reasons for the population density patterns.

Without minority and the female vote, you're looking at another 2020, only worse, much worse!

Again, if the Mexican military stopped all the cross-border traffic tomorrow, somebody else would just fill the void. There is too much demand, hence too much money to be made.

I have a tree in my yard that I've tried to kill. I've chopped it down to the root. I've gone so far as to drill holes in the stump and pour poison into the holes. The damned thing keeps coming back. I'll have to dig down deep and get the roots out or I'll never get rid of it. Same applies to the drug problem.

Hey, today is our 39th anniversayr and I'm taking the missus out to a nice Mexican supper. We'll have some of the finest range-fed beef you'll find anywhere and a couple of the best beers in the world. I'm getting the stink-eye for being here too long.

ÂĄHasta luego, amigos!

As nether an American or a Mexican I am sure my opinion doesn’t matter much but it’s worth noting you’re pretty far off with your statement the violence is lesser in Mexico. Mexicos murder per capita rate is 4x+ that of America. Americas average is 6-7 per 100k Mexico is 28.3 per 100k

The worst areas is Mexico out tank the worst areas of American by 3x clocking in at over 181 perk 100k over 3 times higher then the most violent American cities.

The drug trades exists because the American dollar is lucrative when compared to the peso. Why sell to a fellow Mexican for a few peso when you can move the same product for 50+ US dollars for the same small amount.

The demand for drugs is also just as high in Mexico. I don’t hate Mexico actually love the place been all up and down the Mayan riviera on over a dozen trips. Great time but also worth noting I can’t even move from Cancun airport to a cab on the street without SEVERAL offers of various substances. On the resorts is no different you don’t even have to leave the beach boys will find you.

On one trip we seen federallys picking up a head in plastic bag off the beach. Another trip the cartel bombed a fairy at Playa del Carmen while we were there.

Mexico is a beautiful country but like many beautiful things it can be deadly if you venture around.

It’s worth noting loads of the bag boys at the resorts are cartel members. Plus anyone can bribe your cops I’ve done it myself.

Anyway no hate just my own anecdotal experience.

I think at first it is pretty cool to live in a foreign country. But the "real" drawback is when you get up there in age. In my mind, at least at my age, I'd prefer to live back in my home country.

You seemed to be well set there in Mexico in a very cultural environment. I hope that doesn't change for you.

Best wishes for you. Enjoy your life because every day one should cherish it.

Why can't the US gov't deal with the root causes of the run-amok consumption in our own borders, in our own cities?

BOINGBOINNGBOINGBOINGBOOOOOOIIIIINNNNNNGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!

Oh, wait! I know. That's too difficult. Easier to just blame the Mexicans. Yeah, just blame the Mexicans and ignore the issues in our own back yard.

Now, for the sake of marital bliss I really need to go!

Oh no, you're saying 2 years ago there were NO mexicans crossing the border?? You seriously believe that? So all the hype of REDUCING the amount of crossing is just fluff and bs? I want some of whatever you're smoking or drinking. Kindly show me those figures if you please? I'm sure I'm not the only one that needs to see this.

Not to speak for the OP, but my takeaway from his comment was that the rate of illegal immigration was lower -- i.e., negative -- than in previous years. Perhaps because I already knew this. From 2019:

Mexicans decline to less than half the U.S. unauthorized immigrant population for the first time

Not only the rate of illegal immigration from Mexico decreased, so too did the number of illegal immigrants living here, with many returning to Mexico.

Perhaps if you had not been... um... less than pleasant in your responses, insulting his country of residence and one he obviously thinks well of, the OP would have been more forthcoming with specifics. Just something to think about.

Kennedy's distain for Hispanics won't play well with US Hispanics if he does seek the nomination. It's hard if not impossible to win elections without Hispanic Support.

www.pewresearch.org...

You keep focusing on that….meanwhile democrats will continue using the Latino population as pawns to further their agenda. You don’t want to ever see your team using these people for their financial gain and the power that comes with it. Do you seriously think that Democrats care about these people?

Of course Dems are exploiting illegal immigration for their agenda!

But I hope you don't believe that the Pubs aren't doing the same, and have been forever. Pubs like their cheap labor too. But it makes a great political football so they say the right words and play the game. Especially now that they can exploit the H1B visas for the expanding technology field.

I guess you had US citizens jumping the border to get in to good ole Mexico?

I have a brother that has bought a 2nd residence in Mexico.
Given the state of political corruption we have now, if I were not so old at this point, I would gladly move away from here.

And yes, there are many, many expatriates from the United States now living in, not only Mexico but, many central and South American nations at this point, for various reasons.

Our politicians have ruined this nation, for me at least.
