I have lived in my apartment building for 27 years. The owners are going to move everyone out to another apt. building they own....temporarily....I however don't get to move back when the building repairs are done, they are cancelling their section 8 contract, I have a section 8 housing choice voucher; I have called my housing specialist and he is trying to help me.

They the owners of the building have hired an outside company, to help Some of the tenets are moving back in and others like me who have sec8 have to never come back

I am 74, where am I going to live; the voucher I have is attached to me only I have always been a good tenet. I am scared that they may try to stsreet me.

To m this is a nighrtmare,

I don't know how things go outside of th UK, but as you have access to a computer you could try and contact as many charities for the elderly or similar as you can. Telling them what happend and needing help.
I always do this when in a pickle, throw out as much as possible, something always sticks or people give advice you'd never think of.
At least that one guy is trying to help.
I really hope all works out.
Remember the squeaky wheel gets attention.

Good luck.

Bummer!

You're going to have do some self-advocating. A good start would be to go on your neighborhood Next Door app, and drop exactly the same thing you wrote in the OP. Also post in their free and for sale stuff, "looking for a good tenet that will always pay on time?" "I'm available!"

Good luck!

Also I just read this, is it not applicable here?

BELOW FROM PEOPLES-LAW.ORG
Section 8 housing cannot be terminated by the landlord unless there has been repeated:

serious or repeated violations of "material" (important) lease terms;

being over the income limit of the program;

other “good cause.”

Serious or repeated violations of “material” terms of the lease can include:

failure to pay rent or some other financial obligation; or

failure to fulfill a tenant's obligation such as:

not to sublet the unit (rent it to someone else)

not to keep boarders or lodgers

to use the unit only as a private dwelling

to abide by all housing authority rules and regulations

to maintain the unit in a clean and safe condition

to not destroy or vandalize the unit

to pay for unit damage caused by the tenant, a member of the household, or its guests (other than normal wear and tear)

not to disturb the peaceful enjoyment of other residents

not to engage in criminal activity or alcohol abuse
Other "good cause" includes:

criminal activity, drug abuse, or alcohol abuse;
after you are admitted, the housing authority discovers that the tenant is ineligible;
you make false statements or commit fraud in your application for housing or recertification;
failure of a family member to comply with the program’s community service or self-sufficiency work activity requirement; or
failure to accept a modification of a lease.

What a nightmare!

I can't add much to the advice you've already gotten so I'll just add my own encouragement and cheer you on.

Do reach out to anyone and everyone. Sometimes our greatest blessings come from the most unexpected places.

Do get your ducks in a row so you're ready to go when opportunities present themselves.

Try to get a written letter of recommendation from your landlord. And any other references you can -- perhaps your previous neighbors too?

I love the idea of posting on Facebook and NextDoor. Times are tough for many people and someone might welcome a lodger for a little extra income and maybe some companionship.

I would think so. Section 8 is a federal program, right?

Your housing specialist should know.

Termination of Tenancy – The landlord may not terminate the tenancy except for:

• serious or repeated violation of the terms and conditions of the lease (e.g., failure to pay rent);

• violation of federal, state, or local laws; or

• other “good cause.”

Other "good cause" can include a family history of disturbance of neighbors, destruction of property, or of living or housekeeping habits that damage the unit or premises.

After the initial lease term, other “good cause” can include:

• failure to accept the offer of a new lease or revision;

• landlord's desire to use the unit for personal or family use; or

• business or economic reason (e.g., sale of the property, unit renovation, leasing at a higher rental).

www.peoples-law.org...

So I would suppose that the repairs or renovation are the "good faith" reason and related to business and the economy. Landlord can charge more for units after repairs are made, section 8 voucher doesn't compensate for higher rental price, therefore the landlord doesn't have to continue taking section 8. It would not make sense if landlords could never exit the section 8 business. There are a lot of downsides to being a section 8 landlord so the government forcing them to take it wouldn't be wise, because it would lead to discrimination against them. Two equal candidates, one has section 8, landlord has has problems with section 8, picks the non section 8 person instead based on nothing but discriminatory feelings against section 8.

There is an apartment complex near me that only allows 55 plus. It is not a senior living home, just a regular apartment with age restriction and they have sliding scale rent and very very low rent for the area. Do you have any places like this? Hopefully you can find another section 8 property. It sucks to live somewhere for so long just fine then have the rug pulled. I've got my fingers crossed for you.

Small town low income housing will cost you far less. I would start looking into a small town, especially Nebraska and Kansas, where rents are much lower to begin with.

I am so scared...where am I going to live? I offically am 74 now and I am disabled. Why is Plymouth Housing Group in Seattle WA canceling section 8, I have section 8, where am I going to live? I heard one of the employee's say lie to her, meaning me, and her we will crazy.

I have always been a good tenet, paid my rent , taken care of the apartment.
I have a cat, what will happen to her?

Yes, it is a serious problem.

I had to move a few years ago when the apartment I was renting got sold; couldn't move early because of Germany's landlord-friendly contract termination laws and was looking for a place to live in a market where rents were sky high and not many places were available in any case. All that while I was working a full time job, thank goodness Mrs Cav found a place for us around the right time. No fun at all.

Cheers

Sorry that good Boadie got da boot.

Sometimes when in the helping spirit, one may end-up helping more than just the person we thought we were helping.

Sending thanks and gratitude for the message.

Hoping things are going better for the OP.
