The shooter is still at large and has been named as 24 year old Deion Patterson , it's reported that Patterson went to the medical center with his mother who had an appointment there but an argument ensued resulting in the death of one person and the injury of several others.

Edit
Reports of shots being fired at Northside Drive area now.

I'm sure we will read and hear all kinds of different versions, but here's the first one I found with a little bit of detail...

Reached by phone shortly after Patterson’s name was released by the Atlanta PD, the mom, Minyone Patterson, told The Daily Beast, “The damn VA gave him some messed up medication. And all he wanted was an Ativan.”

She hung up without elaborating further.

So...if you don't get what you want in todays' society the default response is to start shooting? Man, we're a messed up species!

That appears to be the case. How bad is it that my first thought was, "at least it was over medication and not a messed up fast food order".

Good point, Nyiah! It sure helps to take the pressure off of the horrific way our veterans are treated after risking it all for their country.

That spin has been going on for quite a while now. Our former military are the most feared by our government and the ones they watch the most; they admit it. They've doubled down on that since the January 6th, 2021 incident.

The way it reads, I took it as maybe the VA had him on meds that were messing him up?

Sad situation if so.

Yes, that's definitely the message his mother is trying to convey. I'm curious to see what the medical center says, if anything.

ETA: A couple of these reports say that police were already familiar with Deion Patterson, so he may have a history of some kind. Whether it's violent behavior, mental illness, or drugs in general, we'll have to see.

I'm not sure if the mother or even the shooter understands this, but Ativan is a benzodiazepine-class drug. It is a psychotropic drug. They are also addictive. If this guy was taking Ativan, then he probably had some significant mental/emotional issues. If he is dependent upon the Ativan and did not receive it, that could create and escalate problems.

Not making any excuses for anyone, but these benzos come with lots of added problems. It's good to know that these drugs are involved.

I had the same thought.

I'm more inclined to blame the drugs... especially if the guys been prescribed Ativan but couldn't get more when needed. Or if he was given something different instead, how that would have reacted with any other drugs in his system (including residual Ativan).

But Big Pharma won't let their Big Meds take the fall. So, yeah, here comes the "vets R dangerous" spin.

I can't argue with that. I've noticed for years how most of the mass shooters have a history of psychotropic drug use, and their booking photos always show the wild-eyed 'Popeye' look.

A few decades ago there was a push to get kids on ADHD drugs; lately there's a push to get kids on anti-anxiety and antidepressant drugs.

They're poisoning our youth, all in the name of 'mental health'.

Exactly. It's a pattern that many have noticed, just like you, but is always ignored in the big picture. No doubt because Big Pharma won't allow it.

Back when Columbine happened, I was working for a children's behavioral health center. I was shocked when I heard that the boy/boys were taking drugs that were known to cause homicidal and suicidal ideation, and were only given to our resident patients who could be properly monitored -- never to out-patients who could not be properly monitored.

Yup.

Don't tell me one of the side effects is picking up gambling. Those types of drugs can cause some erratic behavior if not taken regularly. Makes me wonder how many shootings aren't because of people not taking their meds correctly.

Our media and Dems will go on a "ban guns now" tirade. Seems to me it's the medication that needs to be banned.

nobody is ruining our society, its already been messed up for half a century now due to unchecked capitalism destroying communities and causing out of control sprawl, Americans forgot how to be a healthy society and forgot what a nation is long ago, now its just a corporate wonderland designed to be exploited and love it, to side with their masters even when it goes against their interests and hurts them, to ask for more everytime and defend their masters behavior by dehumanizing anyone that questions the status quo or criticizes the system.

only in such a society do human lives mean nothing, and people love to justify their side murdering innocent people for any reason.

maybe Americans are just crazy in general and banning guns might actually fix many of our issues that seem to center on paranoid schizophrenia, a nation of crazy people dont deserve to be trusted with handling guns if you think about it rationally, let alone voting.

Great example of the VA in action, they rarely treat the person just whats the symptoms oh here is a pill, oh you had a reaction here is another pill to counter the reaction of the first pill.

This is what the dems want to bring to the rest of the nation.

Thankfully up in Alaska it seems the VA is a little slower paced and they have social workers that keep up with the patients to help work any problems.

heck my indoc physical the guy identified a few more problems I need to do a supplemental on.

long story short (to late) a good VA is very good at their job, a bad VA is criminally negligent in many cases.

Me too. I'm pretty sure I've seen others wonder the same thing. I think it's a safe bet that most are on some kind of psychoactive drug. I wouldn't be surprised if it's every one (at least since Columbine).
