Election season is coming upon us and the drama has already started.

The DNC has come out and said that there will be no primary debates for Biden:

www.foxnews.com...

The RNC has started to set the primary schedule:

www.nytimes.com...

Apparently on Truth Social, Trump ripped the RNC for not getting his permission to schedule debates and feels that he has such a commanding lead in the polls that there shouldn't be a primary.

So, are we going to have primaries or is "Democracy" going to silently die in darkness?

Do you really think Donald J Trump is gonna avoid a televised debate?

The networks love his rantings they equal ratings, he is probably just negotiating his attendance fee

Primaries are the reason our elections are so ****ed now, people have to appease the moon bats on either side to get the vote. Ranked choice voting is the way to go, it appeals to moderates which are the largest portion of citizens.

I don’t think president Biden is interested in any sustained discussion with any other candidate at this time.
Well, unless it’s about his grandpa, or the many churches he attends on Sunday mornings.
President trump, who knows.
He will most likely do as the rnc commands, as he has officially filed the papers required to run in the election.
Even tho the rinos and neocons hate him, he is still the most popular gop candidate per polling.
After all the chaos around that guy he still is on top.
Interesting to me how poorly the dems have dealt with president trump.

No, I don't think The Donald would miss a chance of being on TV. I'd just DIE if he were to start hocking his trading cards in the middle of a debate, LOL.

As far as negotiations, maybe. I don't think it's for an attendance fee but whatever might give him an advantage. He's already balked agreeing to the support pledge that's been around forever. I'm sure I read somewhere, I'll have to look for it, that insinuated he may go 3rd party if he doesn't get the nomination.

Biden appealed to the "moderates" and look where we're at now. Rank choice voting is a way to guarantee Biden quality, establishment picked candidates for the rest of our lives.......no thanks

Too many states have a cutoff before the conventions that would preclude anyone filing in time to get a third party nomination with enough Electoral Votes to win.

Biden appealed to the people who did not want Trump. You got Trump because the Democrats ran Hillary. If there were ranked choice voting neither Hillary, Trump or Biden would have gotten the Presidency.

Now that would be interesting as hell... I'd bet that would get a higher percentage of eligible voters to actually vote instead of not voting at all.

But are you suggesting no primaries, how is it determined who the top candidates are for each party for the general election

Or is it just a free for all, let's get ready to rumble in a general election?

I say skip the primaries and just do a General but if that's too simple for everyone you can have a ranked choice primary as well.

This will never happen, of course, it would severely impact the two parties abilities to control elections and cut off their respective gravy trains.

Yes, Im not a fan of the 2 party system Id be fine with its elimination ever since Ross Perot's campaign actually. Unfortunately, I know it won't ever happen either

As you mentioned, the system now works for the extremes of both parties too well, enflaming both extremes' views beyond their actual percentages in the general population voter base.

But yea if we are going to have all inclusionary in all competitions don't we need an election system for those that don't identify as a donkey or an elephant?

Just saying...

we need a system that appeals to most people the unaffiliated and moderates

[Moon68.... I read this over and realized I forgot to account for the fact that nothing I'm saying is about you at all .... It's all pejorative... I just get angry with our lamentation centering around 'democracy" when we never really are talking about 'democracy.' I hope you know I respect and value you and your opinions, and I am not in disagreement...

Also, this serves as an example of what can happen when you post "in a bad mood"... reading it over again... ugh! Moon68, if I weren't in such a rush right now, I would scratch and completely rewrite this... but I can't... so indulge me my friend, please.]

Prior to the announcement of the death of democracy in the US ... it must actually be a democracy. It isn't.

Although a constitutional republic, the United States citizenry have successfully been effectively 'reprogrammed' to consider themselves as existing as what essentially is a popularized meme about Democracy. Most are of the "constitutional republic? Sure... whatever." mindset. Many, perhaps even most, can't really understand what that is, or means, or in what way that matters, let alone why that was selected over democracy as the preferred method of governance.

Generally speaking, we used to know... it used to be explained and explored as a primary school topic. That's how simple it is , by the way... children of prior generations considered the concept "basic." Adults understood that the idea was not to be a democracy... but to prefer that which is democratic. Again... this is now rocket science to the 'programmed' mind.

Before it can be reasonably asserted that 'the people choose" their representation, (their servants) ... they logically must be cognizant of the selections available. THAT's democratic.

Many prefer debates.... but I have to add, as a curmudgeon, what we have ARE NOT REAL DEBATES, they are glitzed up marketing activities.

For people of either partisan bent.... YOU ALREADY KNOW WHAT THEY WILL SAY. So what is it that they are "debating?"

They just want the show.... so the "debates" became the show....

I know when people throw the phrase democracy around, it not really what they mean.

Democracy is conceptually the 'pretty flower that smells bad' ... everyone has a voice, everyone's will is expressed in governance, anything rejected 'by the people' is instantly addressed and corrected according to 'the people's' will. Realistically, and logically it can never realistically happen... unless all people are magically homogenized into like-minded components. Ever in agreement, ever polarized in uniformity... never in deliberation, never questioning, there is NO wisdom except "common" wisdom. I can't fathom in what way that is appealing at all.

I've been interrupted...

Ah, my friend, it is all good with me. I appreciate your word salad response ( I say that with the utmost respect and admiration truly) and am actually in agreement with your stance. Hence why "Democracy" was in parenthesis. There was a reason the Founders created this nation as a Constitutional Republic and not a Democracy..

As a Libertarian since the Johnson years, I think you would be welcome. It's an eclectic group and we even have topless dancers at some of the campaign events, both male, female and ....well, you know. They say voting Libertarian is throwing your vote away....considering the current climate...that might be preferable.

I still get called a "commie" on ATS; apparently they hate Libertarians as well.
