Yea, I don't understand the lack of spell check. Strange.

I am "old" but I'm trying to improve my writing. One of the things I've become aware of is my use of un-needed words and phrases. For example, I'm overly prone to something like this:

"Frankly, I'm of the belief that for the most part, the world is round".

Better would be:

I believe the world is round. "Frankly" and "for the most part" are seemingly unnecessary.

It's a tough battle and I don't know (not: really don't know) where this excess verbage came from.

Uploading Pictures unto Post-2013 ATS, Serving up member's pictures and snapshots since the retooling of ATS back in 2013, and here's a little secret on your Picture uploads. Always make sure they 'end' with one of these three formats; jpg, gif, png... (a jpeg needs to be changed to .jpg to be accepted as only 3 letter formats are accepted).

There's a lot of great spots to explore and share your comments in. Being this large it's safe to say that not everyone is going to agree with what you might say. And actually that's a good thing as this allows all voices, theories and ideas to come out for discussion.

But be aware that sometimes, people's conviction's can get the better of them and they might attack the person and not the subject being discussed. This is when the Terms & Conditions's (T&C's) are not only your friend but on your side too. If you feel someone has broken the "T&C's", then please notify us of 'their offense' immediately by using the complaint/alert feature, (located below the members Avatar/Meme). To report an offense, find the little "top-torso-person silhouette" then 'click-on' in their avatar/meme area, making sure the post that your wanting to alert staff about is where you click 'that alert' from. These reports are reviewed by staff as we take all complaints and Alerts seriously.

Some areas will require a thicker-skin for discussion and debating and they can get rather heated (in certain arenas). Other areas require you having an open-mind and a need to consider thoughts and theories that don't fit the 'norm'. If you like to tip-toe in to darker areas, you'll find 'like-minded' and curious members that are also into UFO's, the Paranormal, Cryptids and Conspiracies.

There's also places to just chill and cool-down from all the craziness and frustrations of this wild world. Whether it's showing off your artwork in Member Art, or sharing a piece of music you like or created in the Music forum. Maybe you'd like to toss in your "2 Cents" in the General Chit Chat forum.

If you like to read (and compose) good stories, there's a few places for the "mighty fine creative minds" of ATS to hang out at.... including one my favorites the "Short Stories" forum.

As an aside...

You may have felt it organic to share some of your personal traits or information, but know that it is not required and no one can compel you to offer more than your comfortable sharing. Who you are outside of ATS is exclusively your business... what we care about here is what you think and what you want to talk about.

ATS is not one thing. It is a discussion forum... that means it is whatever we want to it to be (within the T&C's) and no one member is more entitled than any other to express their opinion, or to reject the opinion of another.

Since ATS is truly open to the entire planetary community, you may find that some topics can be a bit confusing, especially when national, cultural, or spiritual borders are involved... let alone regional political topics, which can be downright perplexing.

Here at ATS you can always ASK people to explain... our business is the dissolution of ignorance.

Moderators often make appearances within threads... mostly to express themselves as members, as we are 'members' just like you. Sometimes we offer posting advice or comments about what we consider represents 'bad form'... it is not personal... While you may never run afoul of the Terms and Conditions, understand ... we all have, or do, from time to time - as passion and normal conversation patterns sometimes surface and intrude on our limited restrictions. Don't bother keeping score ... and as in real life, we would like to practice that a problem forgiven can remain in the past.

Well, I am using Chrome so for spell check functionality it was just a case of using the right click in the text entry box to turn on spell checking and set the language to use etc. so thanks to network dude for that info, if you're selling your soul to google too then maybe you too have the power.

As for your claim that the original sentence contained unnecessary or extraneous verbiage I understand the sentiment but respectfully disagree. The use of "Frankly," conveys you are providing an honest belief rather than a scientific statement of fact and "for the most part" is (sadly these days) necessary just to shut up the A-Holes who think they're smart because it's only 'round-ish' and not a perfect circle or sphere by any measure.

I say stick with it the way it is originally because this is an appropriate usage in a conversation, yeah sure, if you were writing a book you might choose the shortened statement but only if the next paragraphs explored how you understand that to be an approximation.

Don't doubt yourself just because the rest of the world is going to hell in a handbasket.
