Except when I worked at BK for a year at 15, fast food has always just been a treat for me my whole life, like once a month max. I generally only get it for a snack, like a wendy's four piece nugget for $2 or maybe a lunch once a month. I usually eat leftovers for lunch or a quality frozen meal. They do exist!

It's funny how a thread about the economics and changing fast food industry thread turned into an eating thread

I completely understand being frugal that way, Covid cured my last remnants of eating fast food. It's easily been 4 years or more since I had anything from Wendy's

When we grilled chicken I usually have it for 2-3 days, what are the best-frozen meals? I basically eat one meal a day when Im not fasting and cooking and cleaning for such a small meal gets old. I mostly will just get frozen veggies and do some kind of chicken stir fry.

It's why a burger and fries are now such an occasional treat.

BK hamburgers taste the same as they smell, like garbage. The last time I ordered food at BK was about 50 years ago. I took one bite from a Whopper and had spit it into a garbage. Bad, very bad.

Yeah , but they Still Thing their KING.........................*)

That was pretty funny.

You know how I knew it was a Burger King cause somebody was draining a stab wound in the chit-smeared bathroom LOL.
Im gonna have to watch some more of their stuff.

Prices at BK here have gone way up and their business has gone down now. It isn't worth the money they are asking for junk food. We have not gone to check out McDs prices in a while, but others have said they are getting expensive too.

We are mostly cooking at home these days and most of it is made from scratch buying better quality ingredients. It costs us more, but it is way cheaper than eating out these days. And the food is way healthier most times.

They have reduced the number of employees at the BK....same with most restaurants and stores around here. People can't afford to buy stuff when the prices are going way up now, for a while they were over the pandemic years, but this last year, stores and restaurants seem to have declining sales except for the super markets....people have to eat yet.

Love BK's Fish and Impossible Whopper combo for $7.00. I get that combo about once a month. (Twas 2 for $5.00 in 2019, then 2 for $6.00 in 2021. 2 for $7.00 arrived in 2022. Biden Inflation.)

I am relieved these are not Florida locations. Our family ditched the golden arches and prefer burger king for their tastier meat and affordability. Its only a twenty to forty dollar dine out depending on how many of my kids come out to lunch. Still feels like 2019 prices there. It's my go to for the burger cravings.

Like most I have a BK in my area, I don't like their burgers.
They leave a funny aftertaste with me.
The best cheaper fast food burgers in my opinion are A & W

Fatburger also does a better burger, but it's higher end fast food and more money.
If I am in the mood for a super messy juicy burger I go there.

My favorite burger was the Whopper. A few years back they went woke with the wrapper being "rain-bowed" in favor of their woke ideology. We haven't eaten there since that time, and never will again. So let em close. All the same to me, but the ideology isn't.
So we mainly stopped eating anywhere the ideology went woke. Even if a store fired many staff and went to kiosks, we refused to eat there. Now we make our own at home, and they are healthier, tasted better, and are a lot cheaper.
Burger king is not closing because of covid.
Covid didn't help, but the woke ideology has done far more harm to businesses than covid has done.
Woke has led to exploitative sexuality of our children, indoctrinating in our childrens education, attacks on anyone or thing that disagrees with that ideology, and a disintegration of our morals.
Burger King is indeed in trouble, along with may other businesses or entities that are going woke. Consider Bud Lite. Thats only one
You can't pay someone high salaries for flipping burgers. It is a failed business model and part of the woke environment

I actually listed my favourite three brands on the last page. Curries, pies, and Italian meals.
They have them at Sprouts/Krogers/King Soopers/Safeway. But the more 'hippy' or 'organic' the store is trying to be, like Sprouts, and now the 'organic' isle in some main marts, the more they are likely to have them.

But yeah, buying any combo meal at any fast food chain these days is definitely a rip off.

Its not just BK. I generally dislike McDonalds but I will get the occasional once a year Big Mac craving. I bought a Big Mac meal maybe 3 or 4 months ago and it was $10! Regular sized.....

Doesn’t matter if you agree or not.

Truth.

Raising the wages thereby raising cost= less business, less money, less profit. Closure.

You get what you pay for!!

One things ruined fast food burgers is the drive thru.

All is predicated upon serving the window.

McD incorporated the precooked gritty hockey puck kept warm in a steamed warm drawer.

BK and Wendys soon followed suit.

Since then all fast food burgers have been crappy.

There was a time McD actually cooked burgers on grill to order

BK immediately served burgers fresh off the broiler

With Wendys also serving fresh cooked sandwiches.

The demand of drive thru ruined them and far as I'm concerned the lazy folks who can't get out the car deserve what they created.

When I worked at BK as a lad, we knew when the lunch rush would start so we would premake burgers maybe 5 mins before, and then they would only sit under a heat lamp for a few mins. It didn't really make them taste less fresh. At least 25 years ago.

It's funny how threads will go off on different tangents, and on this one, it's probably my fault for putting the disclaimer about this isn't about the economy crashing when it is exactly about the economy. It's about the economy because if it isn't crashing it is definitely shifting, just from COVID we are still seeing the shift. We can argue if thats a TPTB plan or not, but there is no denying it's happening.

In our little unrelated wholesale apparel business, we always found fast food franchises were always a good indicator as to where our highest volume accounts were, and if new FF locations were popping up those areas were prime for expansion.
We have been using this since the 90s and here in the southeast US we have always had growth and expansion somewhere in our 9 states. Weirdly the opposite was true on where the Costco, Sams Club BJ's big box warehouses were going for some reason it repelled having our type of stores around it.

Online business has hurt tremendously and continues to do so. I can't stress enough in any category if you can buy local do so, and support those local businesses. I know everybody can't do this all the time, but when you can please do it. Most small stores are online too, and have or can order just like the online mega-retailers.

We can't lose the small independent retailer in our local economies. Period.

Our business now is decent all things considered but it is far from as solid and secure as it has been. We are still losing manufacturers and our retailers, however. So where should we look for indicators as to where the growth will occur? Back in the late 80s and 90s lots of the best stores were in the malls, but by the 2000s it was shifting, and now most of our high-volume stores aren't in the malls. FWIW they aren't usually in the downtown urban business areas either.

Where do I look to find out which areas are likely to prosper economically? we used to have access to the census economic heat map that along with an industry market report helped us target certain areas.

totally anecdotal from Many moons ago , probably still true,....

you could buy a burger , take the meat out and toss it , and you wouldn't miss any taste..... In fact the bun tasted more like a burger than the meat in a side by side comparison.

Just my experience with BK .....

It's so expensive fast food, I see it sadly as a luxury now. It was anyway something we ate rarely, and now even more so.
Last time we went to BK it was $18 for two burgers/fries and drinks.

I can buy the ingredients and make it myself and have enough for 5 meals at least.
Super easy to make too.

They are all expensive now. At least BK is better than MacD. I think just that overall increase is what is driving all this as people elect to just stay home and eat much cheaper, and a hell of a lot healthier. I see that Chipotle was like under 8 bucks a couple of years ago and now it cost like 13. We went to firehouse subs, first time for me, ordered a med and large sub with one drink and it was over 30 bucks. So yes, I think people just do not want to pay the prices these places are pushing overall and not just a BK issue.

Talk about a blast from the past forgot all about Fuddruckers, circa 2001. For those not familiar you would order your burger and tell how done it should be and the type of cheese if any. It was a flame-broiled 1/3 lb patty of very lean ground sirloin or a grilled chicken breast IIRC. Then you took your burger to another station where you could dress it up, however, you preferred with fully loaded add-ons and a condiment bar. It was quality stuff well stocked and clean, with unlimited refills, and decent potato wedges too.

We used to go there often too, before and definitely after I got a divorce, it was the one place besides the Golden Corral/ Food Trough where all 3 of us could find something to eat.

But it was in the parking lot of a nice large shopping center, with a Super Target as an anchor and another 20-30 stores it was a busy and full SC.

Saw that place every few days for 10 years in the 90s, last time I saw the location was about 10 years ago it was then Fazoli's which is a low-grade Italian franchise. and the shopping center definitely looked over 25 years old and had turned over most of its stores, and Target was pretty run down.

Now it looks like it's having a bit of a resurgence but the Fazolis is now a Mickey D's, we used to have clients near this location which was one of the reasons it was so familiar, but now we don't.

In about 40 years the whole area has gone from nice and new to rundown and struggling, to better maintained really busy but low to moderately priced stores

Well I have tried the vegan option, but I do prefer the good old fashion beef variety.

As for Fuddruckers, I liked their burgers too, baking fresh buns on site is a novel idea, and custom make your burgers.
